What tea are you drinking now? Status line

"What tea are you drinking now?" status line with abilities to like and comment. Kind of like facebook status lines but for us tea drinkers:) It would be fun to type this in and then browse what others are drinking too.

  • If you go to another user's tealog by default you can already see the tea they are "drinking now" and can like and comment on that tasting note, similar to Facebook.
    • That's not really an accurate representation of what rabbysmom asked for. I think she (assuming here) wants is to be able to quickly update the current tea she's drinking without leaving a tea note. Some of us don't want to review or rate a tea more than once, or every time we drink it, but we'd like to quickly share what we're drinking.

Hey thanks, David- yea, you got it right, thanks! Your comment showed up in my email and I had to respond:) Oftentimes the tea I am logging is not what I am "drinking now" but a tea from earlier in the day so I still think it would be fun to have a "rabbysmom is drinking_____ now" status line that is not a part of the tea logs but on an actual staus page.

  • I agree. I'd like to just do a quick "tea status" update as opposed to a tasting note at times.

  • But you can still log a tea without writing a review. Wouldn't that be the same thing?

As Angrboda noted, you can log a tea without writing a tasting note by simply clicking the "Write something later" link on the tasting note form. This (essentially) does what you're looking for in a status update.

However, I understand that you're probably thinking of something that is more independent and separated from the tealog, perhaps even labeled as "So-and-so is drinking ______ now." (right?)

To respond to this and rabbysmom, we think that an arrangement where teas in a status update are separate from the tealog could be confusing to users. With that arrangement, you could potentially be "currently drinking" many teas that are never actually recorded in your tealog. So when people go to read your tealog and understand your sense and taste of tea, they would be missing relevant parts of the overall picture. Since you can see the most recently logged tea by any person, we feel this would be enough for the time being. -also, technically if it was a "drinking now" status then if you didn't update it for a couple days it would be inaccurate :)

@rabbysmom: Regarding your situation of drinking one tea while logging another you had earlier, I would just have to say "Log more teas...and faster!" :) Part of that also falls on us because we want make sure you can log your teas, when you are drinking them, in a quick and simple manner. That's why we don't require tasting notes and why we're also looking into and iPhone app/mobile applications so people can log their teas from anywhere (not just when they're sitting at their computer).

I hope this helps you understand our reasoning. If we come to the point where people are not getting relevant info about what other users are currently drinking, we will certainly consider something like this. Let me know if you have any questions jason@steepster.com

  • If you're not going to tie the full-windsor, don't bother I'd say. Let's have a round on Angryboda!
