Problems and usability issues with new Stumble

Hey Stumble team! I'm a big Stumble user and fan, and recently adopted the new Stumble. While I really like the intuitiveness and fluidity of the new system, I've noticed some issues in my usage of the new Stumble:

1. Not being able to share links from the info/reviews page. Previously on SU, I could go to the link, hit 'info', then share it to all my friends. Now, I have to find where I liked the page in my likes (I have over 48K+ thumbs, not fun) then click on a very small button just to share. For instance, I discovered this page last week: http://www.theonion.com/articles/broo... but didn't share it. I wanted to share it today and had to surf through hundreds of likes before I found it to share. Not the friendliest experience!

2. I can no longer see how many of my friends have liked a certain post. Previously, I could see on the review pages how many of my friends liked a post. Just to use the above link as an example (http://www.theonion.com/articles/broo...) if a lot of my friends already liked the link on their own, I probably wouldn't share it. Now, I have no way of telling who of my friends has already thumbed content.

3. The shares page is really difficult to use (https://www.stumbleupon.com/shares). I have over 250 mutual friends that send 500 shares a day, so being able to cleanly and efficiently go through my shares is a must. However, with the new Stumble, one has to hit refresh multiple times before the 'Mark as Read' button will function. Similarly, we're still limited to only 10 shares on a single page, meaning this is a really tedious task. If Stumble can make the 'Mark as Read' button more functional and increase the number of shares displayed for page, it would be a much appreciated improvement!

If it helps, I'm using Windows 7 with Firefox 10.0.2 with StumbleUpon toolbar 3.9.9. I've also experience the above issues in Chrome and have confirmed that individuals on other OS' and browsers are experiencing the same problems. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi there Alec,

Thank you so much for this input! I will address your concerns and questions one-by-one:

1. Sharing from Info Page: I apologize upfront, but I'm a little confused as to why you want to share this page by going to the URL > Info Page versus going to the URL > using the Share button. Let me know if I'm missing something there!

2. Seeing which friends Liked a page: You should be able to use the Info page to tell which friends Liked it. Are you not seeing that Info Page data?

3. Shares page: I was able to reproduce this "Mark as Read" problem in FF. I will be sure Engineering knows the "Mark as Read" feature needs frequent refresh in FF and that is an issue. (FYI the "Reply to Share" button not working issues is known and we are working on that fix.)

Re: display on the page -- that's a little bit more difficult for technical reasons because we are loading a lot of information on the page and having to pull it all from the database. But I will most definitely bring it up to Design.

Thank you again for all of this, Alec!

(P.S. What's your username?)

Thanks for the answers Currin!

1. When I attempt to share from the page itself using the Share button on the Firefox toolbar, it is really, really easy to misclick. If you click outside of the very small check box for selecting user names, the share pop down disappears. If you click on a username by mistake, you get sent to their user page AND the share pop down disappears. Considering I have so many friends, its basically impossible to use this method.

So, I've always used the sharing from info page, which was really convenient and seemed like it wasn't prone to the problems of using the Share button on the toolbar.

2. The person below mentioned this, but it's not the 'who' but the 'how many' that I'm interested in. It's really helpful to see how many of my friends (like an actual number) have thumbed a page so I can determine if I should share a page or not.

3. Thanks, glad you saw the same issue I was with Firefox, appreciate getting this fixed!

Hey alecb,

1) We're probably more likely to update the Firefox toolbar as a priority item. I will be sure the team knows this is an issue (I agree the sharing in the toolbar from Firefox isn't as clean and easy as the webtoolbar or Chrome.)

2) I will put in a request for this feature. I've noted Jen-O-cide's comments below. We are trying to make it more about your micronetwork, so bringing back this type of info would make sense.

3) It is a known issue on our radar!

Thanks for the tips!

Thanks Currin! Is there any timeline for the above to be addressed and fixed?

Hi there,

We plan to make some updates to the Share page in the next few months which will hopefully solve all of these issues. If we are able to update any one-off ones in the meantime we will do that as well, but we are having to fit them in with other major initiatives. But they have been discussed with the team, we are aware of them, and are tracking to be sure that we address them at some point.

Thanks for following up! Sorry I don't have "it's fixed now" news.

RE: 2 There used to be a list of people, like tags, that would show up in the review space, telling you which of your friends had liked the post. "Such and such, so and so, and 13 others liked this post," when you hovered over the "13 others" it would list all those who also liked the page.

I don't know if we can make feature requests here, but I would suggest getting rid of the "he said" and "she said" portion of the review section and putting us back in touch with our friends, especially since there is no page that tells us what their recent activity has been.

Now that there is so many spammers on SU it would be nice to be able to "mark as read" in bulk or at least not have to refresh the page several times to mark them. Is this going to be fixed or is this the NEW and IMPROVED SU?

@notusedupyet. If you're getting spam in your shares, that means you intentionally chose to follow those people, and the solution is as simple as unfollowing them. No one can spam your shares without your permission.
