  • Hi Troy,

The Tap2Order ordering web app (the customer facing part) is webkit-based and works fine on Android. The business side app is iPad-only, for a number of reasons:
    * We're using Apple in-app subscriptions for payment.
    * iPads have a standard form factor, good quality hardware and are readily available.
    * We love our iPads and use them whenever we can!

While I wouldn't rule out building an Android tablet client in the future, we have no plans at this stage.

  • Hi Troy,

Thanks for the feedback. We would welcome healthy competition in the market if you or anyone else were to build an Android equivalent.

  • Since it is apple based, will it work with the iPhone, or just the iPad?

  • Hi The Cafe Truck,

Just the iPad at present. The main reason is that larger display gives us more room to lay out the user interface.

We've discussed doing an iPhone version, but it would possibly have more limited functionality and we'd need to better understand how/where people want to use it. Were you looking at using the iPhone to receive orders (I assume in the truck)? Is this due to space constraints, not wanting to have an additional device, or some other reason?

  • A combination of space constraints and not wanting to have to purchase an additional device since we already supply our shift managers with the iPhone to use as a back up credit card processor with Square when we are in an area where our traditional POS credit card processor won't work.

  • Hi The Cafe Truck,

Thanks for the feedback. To be honest, the service isn't perfectly suited to mobile coffee operators - we've had a few try it, but it assumes a fixed store location, which means the customer-facing 'find my nearest store' functionality won't quite work.

Ideally a mobile iPhone version would use the GPS to update the truck location, but without being an expert in the mobile coffee business, I suspect there may be other differences (e.g. ordering is only useful if the truck is in the vicinity). We'd like to explore the potential of this market - is it okay if I contact you offline? Are you the guys in Honolulu?

  • Sam,

Yes, we are the ones in Honolulu. I am RC, call me anytime.

We just launched our mobile app for the iPhone, iPad, and Android that has a remote ordering function built into it, but it is very limited, and still has a lot of bugs to be worked out before it can be used, and I am not wanting to wait that long to be able to offer the service to our customers. Thats why I am considering merging your service in with our mobile app.

I can have one of the tabs in our app bring up a webpage within the app. I am currently using this function of the customers to reload their pre-paid Truck Bucks cards and also for our support chat. This is how I was thinking about using the Tap2Order service, if the option for the customer to be prompted to save it to their home screen can be turned off.

We have a GPS location function already built into the app that we update whenever we are doing special events at other locations, however our normal schedule is 6am-8pm Mon thru Fri in the same location at the University of Hawaii. This also works for our GPS Coupons so the customers can "Check In" at the truck and receive specials for doing that a certain number of times.

We have just about everything already built into our mobile app, except for a good remote ordering system. I am hoping that we can combine the two to create a perfect system for our customers. I would like to figure out the quickest and most economical solution quickly to better serve our customers.
