"Connect to iTunes to use Push Notifications" keeps popping-up at start up.

I'm getting a pop-up "Connect to iTunes to use Push Notifications". I did connect and the iPhone synced, but I'm still getting the pop-up, even after a reboot. I'm using a first generation iPhone with 3.0GM. I'm also not getting any push notifications

Sorry apoZ, I haven't seen that message yet. Are you given any options when that appears?

Hi ed,
I can only click 'OK'.
I do have an unlocked iPhone first generation (because there was no first generation iPhone in my country Belgium) which I had to unlock.
I don't see why this could be an issue, but it's the only thing I can come up with....

I'm sure that could be the issue, actually. Push notifications rely, in part, upon your phone provider. (Apple routes messages via AT&T, in the US.) Whatever this is, it's not a Tap Tap Revenge issue. It's something about your phone (hardware and/or OS), your service, and/or Apple.

Sorry!

@Jess.

However it is weird that the AIM beta did work!

That is strange! I'm sorry... don't know what to say. Maybe they mean to put your credentials into iTunes on the phone itself, versus running iTunes on your desktop?

All my credentials are in iTunes on the phone itself.
Maybe you guys can contact Apple about this?

I haven't yet tested Tap Tap Revenge with jailbroken 3.0. We'll need to test that out first.

I'd like to stress that I don't have a jailbroken iPhone. I have an unlocked iPhone to use it on another network than AT&T, cause i can't connect to AT&T here in Belgium.

Go into Settings and underneath the Wifi should say 'Notifications' .. slide them all to off.

It should turn it off.

I could do that, but then I wouldn't be receiving any push notifications, sothe problem stays the same.... I can click OK on the pop-up and continue, but I'm not receiving any push notifications.

apoZ, I see you found the post that indicates that this is indeed a system problem, and not specific to Tap Tap. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthrea...

Hopefully some info about this will be posted to Apple's own support forums in the near future, once OS 3 is officially live for all users.

And here, a fellow in Germany with an "unofficially activated" phone has the same issue. http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/f201/...

I'm sure it's related to that. Push does require the cooperation of the phone companies. (Notifications are vended out via cell networks, and not via WiFi.)

Hi, I'm the fellow from Germany... There's something strange about this argumentation since I read some reports from people receiving push notifications on iPhones whith no SIM in it, only connected via WiFi. It apparently works on iPod touches, too. I hope there's going to be a solution, push was one of the biggest things I was looking forward to in 3.0.

That's indeed very strange. I also know some people who also have a first gen iPhone (unlocked and activated) and do not have problems with Tap Tap Revenge...
Your argument about push working on iPod Touch makes sense too... So push does not require the cooperation of the phone companies.
I'm very curious about the official release.

That's true - iPods can get push as well... Once we're all using authorized copies I'm sure it will be easier to troubleshoot.

Even though it seems like it's also happening for non-hacktivated phones, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.j...

Hi ed,
Thanks a lot for your help here. It's definately not a Tapulous problem. The reason why AIM worked was because a previous build of 3.0 did allow push on hacktivated iPhone.
I hope Dev Team will fix it, so I can play TTR2 with challenges.
Again, many thanks, really nice you guys give some much feedback to clients!

I have 2 jailbroken/unlocked iphones on a family plan with tmobile. one receives push messages just fine and the other receives this message. connecting/syncing with itunes doesn't make it go away. I cannot figure it out at all. I verified all the network settings are the same on both phones. it's weird

I had this same problem during the day yesterday and then for no apparent reason it fixed itself at like 9PM or so (2G iPod Touch). I don't know if you have to press "OK" a certain number of times or if Apple had a bug in their server that they fixed or what happened, but it's fixed for me. Is anyone else still having this problem?

One question that's sort of off topic but kind of on topic too-what will be pushed to iPods/iPhones? Just challenges from other users and notifications when people play your battle or will just plain news feeds get it too? So far I've only got notifications from challenges or when people play my battles. I didn't get a notification for the Tap Tap Thursday track, but maybe I'm not supposed to.

You won't get any notifications for news, new features/songs, or anything like that. It's only person to person.

What's the fix then? Everyone I know who have both an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone have the push notifications working for them. My problems started ever since I accidentally updated my iPhone and I was left stranded for weeks. After that, the blackra1n came to save the day. But the push notifications stopped working. I installed the push fix and now, I at least get a a message that tells me it wont work till I connect to iTunes. If it works on iPod touch, it should work fine on iPhone. I hope this problem gets resolved soon.

This problem started for me after installing a Cydia application called, "Push Fix". Uninstalling the app solved the infinite loop pop-up, but I'm still not getting my notifications.

This has started popping up for me everywhere on my iPhone 4S. For the Yelp application, it pops up constantly such that I have to reboot the iPhone to get back to normal. What's going on?
