I’m frustrated

flOw controls for PS4 are complete garbage!

flOw controls for PS4 are complete garbage! You guys should be ashamed of yourself for not allowing the option to use the joysticks or d-pad. I love the game and have played on the pc for hours, but I cant viably play this game.

I feel that I just wasted 5 bucks on a lemon which is flOw. It will make me think twice of buying your products in the future!

  • We developed flOw with the intent of getting players as immersed as possible, so we left out joystick/d-pad controls.

Most players who've had an issue with flOw's controls move the controller around too much. Try holding the controller with your fingertips and not moving the controller around very much.

The PS3 and PS4's controllers are very sensitive, so you don't need to move the controller around much to have it register.

Sometimes I just want to play it while resting on my bed. These 'immersive' controls just get in the way.

Could you just add an option to let people change to what they want?

  • For real. I love this game and playing on the ps4 is just way too frustrating. I tried all the tricks, playing with fingertips, turning it upside down, I really tried to make it work but these motion controls are just bad. Pretty ridiculous that there's not an option to use the joysticks this game would be so much fun. Great game visually but whoever decided to literally force me to play with motion controls is completely disconnected from their audience. Anyways to end my rant I'm pretty dissapointed guys
    • The PS4's controller is very sensitive, so, at most, you only need to move the controller ~1 inch (3 cm) up or down on each side. That's what "playing with fingertips" is supposed to mean. If you're playing with your fingertips (meaning that you don't have any sort of grip on the controller), you aren't able to move the controller around very much. The one thing you should never do is flip the controller upside down.

All of the people that I've seen with this sort of comment have been moving the controller around too much. I can't see what you're doing, but perhaps you should imagine that there's an egg or a ball on the controller. Try to keep this imagined egg/ball on the controller for as long as possible. (Meaning that you should barely move the controller at all.)
    • This isn't a tablet or a phone, it's a controller. Nobody plays with their 'finger tips' because the controller has been literally designed around your thumbs and to fit in the palms of your hands. Holding it any other manner is counter intuitive and awkward. We are asking that you give the users (i.e. the people who paid you) another option to set the controls.

Let the end user decide how they (we) want to use it. The lack of understanding on this is astounding and I will continue to discourage people from purchasing this game until it is fixed.

  • I bought this game and Flower recently after absolutely loving Journey. While Flower was beautiful and enjoyable to play, Flow was not. The controls kept me from playing this for more than 10 minutes. I feel like I wasted 6 bucks on a game with horrible controls. I do hope that an update is released with a joystick option, would like to actually play the game. The whole "immersing yourself in the game" is a crap reason to let something like this get by. The motion controls are gimiky at best, and down right confusing at its worst.
    • A suggestion I have is to attempt to play the game with the controller on your fingertips. Almost always, the difficulty playing flOw is due to players moving the controller around too much. The SIXAXIS controller is very sensitive, so you don't have to move the controller much more than 1/2 an inch up or down on each side to play the game.
When I see people have issues playing the game, they'll often-times flip the controller over or move it so it's vertical, which is why the game isn't responding properly.
    • I really thought that the "play with your finger tips" was silly suggestion, BUT IT WORKED! Honestly I hope everyone that has issues with the controls takes this advice, it take a little getting used to, but it didn't take me very long to get it. Thanks again, I'm glad I was able to finally enjoy the game!

Just don't understand why the thumbstick option isn't given to players. Additionally it's frustrating that only after I bought it did I learn it was motion-controlled only. I haven't played Journey yet but was pretty let down by flOw and flower in this regard. Specifically purchased the collector's edition as a way to wind down at night, as most games are a bit too intense or competitive for that niche. Games like Skate 2 fill this void perfectly and I haven't seen many relaxing "chill out" games for this gen. Flower seems perfect but it's like I'm circling around over and over and twisting the controller every which way just to play it; exact opposite of the experience I was looking for unfortunately.

I really dig this company's aesthetic and approach to games, but please give us options when it comes to how they are controlled.

    • To not even give us an option is a very foolish move. Had I known that 'playing with your fingertips' was the only option I would not have wasted my money. Thanks for looking out for disabled gamers.
    • Strange, this was not an issue with the PSP version, which is probably the best version of the game because of this.

  • This game is total garbage. Had I known motions controls were required I would have never wasted my time. I'm literally refunding it. Give me an option to us the joysticks and yeah, I'd probably love it. I'd be far more immersed than any level of trying to balance the control on my hands pretending I have an egg on it. Total trash.
