I’m PISSED-OFF!

My TomTom is WORTHLESS! NO MAPS FOUND!

I purchased the new version of USA/Canada map. After installing, my TomTom One New Edition displays "No maps found!"
I have tried removing the maps and re-installing with the same results. What can I do? If this isn't resolved, I expect a refund for the new map.

After contacting TomTom support I received the automatic response. I tried all of the suggestins to no avail. I updated my request accordingly.

Eight (8) days later, I received a message from "Robert" (could this be "Rob"?). I followed his instructionds to the letter but with no better results. I updated my question (including data from "System Information"). Six (6) days later - still no response or solution.

I am desperate - my TomTom is worthless! Also, it appears that I wasted $80.00 on a new map that only manage to destroy my TomTom!

PLEASE HELP!

I am just starting this saga, I downloaded TTHome, update the device... out of the blue, red cross blinking, spent half a day trying to fix it, call TT, some email instructions, get through but now "no map found"...If I calculate my hourly rate, I could have bought TTXL again, and again...

  • I’m frustrated
TOMTOM works well when it does but has stupid protection mechanisms which frustrate the genuine user and are simple enough for the non genuine user to get around. Don’t mind them protecting there product but have a decent 24x7 automatic authentication system so we can get it back up and running. I have same issue with my fathers unit. I can recover my maps (same model, same version, and same region) but no way to make the unit accept the maps. How hard would it be for the home software to have a rebuild my device to factory spec option? Or re authorise new maps that are EXACTLY the same as the ones it shipped with. I "evaluated" TT v1 form months before paying for an upgrade to v2 with maps for all of Europe - the stupid authentication failed and wouldn’t reset. Stupid help desk was on holiday (being a local number redirected to another country) - and they didn’t switch the on hold system off - result? On hold for hours during the day trying to get through. 5 minute fix three days later - After buying map books and driving through three countries where I don’t speak the language on the wrong side of the road with no GPS. Nice! Any compensation, any gee I am sorry we should check our holiday procedures. Yah right. They lost my purchase when TT V5 came along which I again "evaluated" and decided it's maps were just as wrong and the software was less then the previous versions. Why do I now own a ONE v3 - If you know let me know as I don’t know.
My Advise BUY IT from a shop that has a no reason return policy. Or borrow one to "evaluate"

There is an option by which you can change to the various maps you have on your device. Did you try that?

    suggestions to your problems,
1/ Don't just rely on e-mail and contact via TT Home, phone them, on a daily basis if necessary.

The following is a copy of Tom Tom advice regarding a similar problem

    - Download the clear flash tool from http://www.tomtom.com/6178 and follow the instructions on this web page.
    - Once this has completed, switch your TomTom off, disconnect it from the PC and then switch your TomTom back on.

    Run Disk Error Checking

    - Connect the TomTom device to the computer.
    - Go to My Computer and right-click on the removable drive called "TomTom": and select Properties.
    - Select Tools.
    - At the top, in the "Error-checking" section, press Check Now.
    - Check both boxes and press Start:

For further information about how to do this, see http://www.tomtom.com/8324

This will run a disk check on the device memory and fix possible errors. Depending on the size of the memory, this may take several minutes (on a GO 910 even about one hour).

Let me know how you get on, Good Luck

the solution is actually very simple, but takes 2 hours. The same thing happened to me: after installing updates to my TomTom, i got the "no maps error". What you do is plug your tomtom back into your computer and go to tomtom Home. In the Tools Menu (at the top) ...{i think}, click on "Use Latest Map Guarantee". Follow the instructions to upload the map. It takes about 2hrs.. DONT EXIT OUT OF IT. You should probably make sure your computer doesnt go into standby mode.

the simple solution is, just go to tomtom home and click on add maps. When you clicked it, you would see USA/Canada map. Next to it you would see add. Click it, and it would take a few minutes to install the map. Then disconnect your device and ur good to go.

Hi we're having the same problem with our UK tomtom one xl. TThome has wiped my boyfriends tomtom and now he's put everything back on but can't get maps on there. We've copied the maps from my one xl (which is older than his) but it comes up saying they are not authorised for his device. How do we get it to work? We have been to the latest map guarantee but it is saying that latest map guarantee is not available. Help please

I just bought a tom tom one 140 and had the same problem after updating. It just kept going to the No Maps Found screen. Drove me nuts for hours. I tried the solutions proposed on this page without success, I tried to reinstall maps, but it kept telling me the maps were already installed, or it would say there was no room on the device to add the files. Here's how I finally solved the problem. Maybe it will work for others.

Click on Start, then Computer, then double click on the letter of the Tom Tom device. There you will find the map folder under the name of the relevant country/countries (in my case US-Canada-Mexico). You want to get rid of this folder out of the device so that you can re-install it. Don't delete it, move it to your desktop, just as a precaution. It will take a while as it is a huge file (maybe 30 to 60 minutes to move it). Once it is removed from the device you can now plug your Tom Tom into the computer, open Tom Tom Home and install the maps. Again it is a slow process because of the size of the file. It just wouldn't let me reinstall until I moved the existing file out. It was worth the wait though because my device now works perfectly. The interesting thing is that when I compared the newly installed map folder to the one I had moved to the desktop there were a fair number of files added that were not in the original one, so it looks like there was some kind of disruption or abortion of the original download, resulting in missing files.

Once your device is working OK don't forget to delete the original large file you moved to the desktop.

    YMK

I resolved my problem. I bought a Magellan.

I will NEVER spend another penny on anything made by Tom Tom again. After the second Tom Tom, being jammed in Cincinnati (11 hours from home) with no GPS, and a Tom Tom XL doorstop I learned my lesson. I tried everything including deleting the original maps folder to attempt to force a reset, "flashing" the hardware, etc. Every time the components/software would install after the lengthy process I would get the same error message after having to re-set the language again.

Tom Tom customer service is horrible. They constantly force you to jump through hoops with their malfunctioning product and then ask for a proof of purchase to rectify the problem. My unit was 2 years old and the proof of purchase/packaging was long gone (what's the point of registering the product with the company?)

I personally think that most of these GPS companies are garbage from a support standpoint anyway. They make no effort to create any kind of physical repair services available to existing customers. They take your money and if a problem arises they expect you to just hand them another $150-$400 or more for a new one.

When I have to replace my GPS again it's going to be software only for a phone, probably an iPhone and it still won't be Tom Tom software for me. With an iPhone at least I can get and extended warranty to guard against hardware issues and if it's software it's a simple matter of uninstalling and re-installing the whole app.

  • I’m Relieved!
I bought an XXL530S several months back and wanted to update my maps. I had bought 18 months of updates. I updated my version to the latest version and then attempted to get my update.

Granted it was a large file, but after 4 hrs of it loading the updates, I had to leave the office which meant I had to disconnect. Yes, yes, I know it says not to do that but I had to. It would help if the updates loaded much faster. Anyway, when I went back into Home to finish my update, there didn't seem to be problem. Everything seemed to proceed fine. Then after I disconnected my unit and tried to use my unit, I got the "No Maps" screen. UGH!

As my Home told me I didn't have "Last Map Guarantee" as suggested in one of the earlier posts, I went to the Home website and did a search under technical issues. Under "If you recently attempted to download a map" I found my answer. Steps 1-7 didn't help me at all as that stuff was already current in my unit. However, at the very bottom it says "If the error persists:" and I followed the instructions for that. Wala!! My unit works now. I had to "add" my maps again and then "install to internal memory". I did turn off my computer's "sleep" this time. That probably helped. Try the link below. Good luck!
    http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answ...

I agree with other posters. TomTom could make this much, much easier. I probably spent 6 hours trying to get my update, between the 2 sessions.

Are the other gps brands easier to update?

  • OK, I have a xxl530tm got the no maps error, here's what I did. luckily I had a save of the map files for a 340s, I copied them to the maps directory on my 530, it took about a hour to do that, and the 530 showed the map was there but not compatiable with the 530. Next I connected it to the computer and ran tt home, it actually sent new maps to my unit but it took the better part of 3 hours to do it, it's a long slow process.

  • No maps founds rick@compu.net How do i install us&canda maps Thanks for input.
    • Rick follow the instructions about posted by kellybhoy. I went to several sites to find out how to do exactly what he said and he was the first person to explain it in an easy to understand manner. My GPS is fine now and I had the same issue.

Plug your GPS into your computer, click on "start" and go to "computer" then find your unit (it'll be the TOMTOM symbol) and click on that. Find the file that is maked North_America and move it to your desktop. Then delete that original. Then go to TOMTOM home and go to add maps and install the US/Canada map (should say it's on your computer and free). Then you might be prompted to update again and you can do that too and that should solve it.

Big SUCKS on TT support service - they replied after 10 days, and their 1-3 step solution didn't help me (still no have purchased map western europe).

This was big lessons for me, never buy TT again. Let us sing TOMTOM SUCKS TOMTOM SUCKS.... etc :)

  • I’m sad
I did an upgrade, as rwecommneded by TomTOM, to my TomTom ONE XL. it has never worked after that. It say "No Maps". The unit is over two years old so all warranties have expired. I tried fixing the files by going to Properties, Tools etc. But nothing is working. I searched Internet, nothing so far. Does anyone know what the Map files are called? I have a folder called "United_kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland. There are a number of files in it. But what is the name of the file containing the maps. IN addition, TomTom says I only have 76.9 Mb of files, but explorer says I have 230MB. so where are the missing filels when looked from TomTom? Any help would be most welcome.

  • I’m why waste my time on poor design
This is a terrible design-- a disaster waiting to happen. Automatic updates seem to come rolling in ~ once a month. Warnings say to disable timers which could shut down the computer-but there is also the default for Windows to automatically check for updates in the middle f the night, update, and shut down. Since it takes about 6 hours to download new maps (only DSL available where I live), it was only a matter of time until Windows updates shuts the computer down and the Tom Tom device destroyed itself. I have worked for various computer developers for 40 years and know a bad design when I see one! Will use maps on Iphone and watch TomTom disappear into the sunset rather than wasting my time on this pig!!
Update: Rather than waste tons of time I waited for the next maps update and it loaded sucessfully

  • Since downloading "tt live" I also get the usual "no maps found". But also any computer I connect it to states "the usb device connected has a malfunction", so I cant do anything.
TT thanked me for my patience and kindly offered me 20% off a new device. Or they would fix it for 105 euros.
Also, who would make a bluetooth device that one has to stop the vehicle to hear?
I agree with the above TOMTOM SUCKS.
I am off now to look for other good places to warn people.

  • My TomTom ONE was working fine until I decided to update my maps and installed TomTom HOME on my computer and connected my device. I now get the message 'No Maps Found'. TomTom help (loosely used term) say they are unable to help me as I do not have the purchase receipt, although I still have the old activation code and all other paper work. I didn't know that I would need the receipt once the warranty had expired other wise I would have kept it.
I will not be purchasing a TomTom ever again.
