This would be an excellent way for RSS-savvy friends and family to see when the child's TotSpot page has been updated.

Hadn't thought about this before - but it's not a bad thought at all...we'll look into it.

For that matter, if you can get an RSS feed going, why not make it into a Windows Gadget or a Google Widget? Then you could support the login option so only approved family members can follow updates...and it would be really cool. :P

I think our approach on widgets/apps is to build an API that users can leverage in a variety of different ways including (we hope) building their own gadgets, etc.

Your making an open source API? Really? When will it be available? I would think that security issues would keep you guys from doing that. Your not setting yourselves up for a Facebook acquisition are you? :)

It's an API complete with security & privacy measures. Users will get to decide with whom they want to share their data. We've had tons of requests for different types of slideshows, widgets, social media applications, desktop applications, etc., and we thought the best way to accommodate these ideas was to give developers the ability to build on top of the TotSpot platform!

@michael -- is there as easy way to get to the RSS feed? Seems like right now I need to view the feed as a blog, and then get the RSS link. It works perfectly.

Minor recommendation: rename the RSS title to be "Totspot: [Username]" -- I may end up following multiple users feeds and could have Google Reader let me know which toddler the story was.
