This is ridiculous. Neither IB nor TV seem to be particularly interested in this project, at least not interested enough to have two techs actually get together and collaborate and iron out the details. One talented coder from each company should be able to establish connection and core functionality in a day or two. Then a couple weeks of grunt work debugging and it should be ready for the road test. I may end up leaving BOTH TV and IB. It won't be one or the other. Neither party is reaching out in a meaningful way to the other, or else this thing would be a done deal by now.

Each party points the finger of blame to the other and claims to be blameless, claims to have done all that they can do to make this happen, and to be waiting on the other party. This is obviously not so in either case.

BTW I tried to use the REST API in python. Couldn't seem to connect. Odd, isn't it? Maybe I am just an idiot with Python?

Well Trading View is blaming IB in my most recent inquiry. Hi! Thanks for getting in touch! We're working towards integrating Interactive Brokers to TradingView, but the integration process has been temporarily halted by IB themselves. We can't give an ETA, unfortunately, but we'll make a blog announcement when we add them. Thank you!"

  • Here is feed back from Trading for my support ticket:

We're going to integrate IB directly to our platform, but we're currently waiting for them to finish their API rework. After they finish it we going to start integrating it to the platform. So there's no ETA unfortunately. But I've tagged your report to IB integration task anyway, so you should get notified when it's done.

Thank you for your understanding, enjoy your day!

So It would appear that Trading View is not being truthful in the eyes if Interactive Brokers. Here is the most recent response from IB, from a Senior Specialist, API Support - I have blocked the name.

"We apologize for such conflicting information however the response provided by TradingView is incorrect. We thank you for letting us know and will reach out to TradingView to ensure such false accusations are no longer given.

With that being said nothing has been halted or changed with TradingView and if they wish to use the Third Party APis as provided by Interactive Brokers approval was given as far back as April 2017."

  • Guys, there seems to be quite a bit of contradictory information posted about the integration between InteractiveBrokers and TradingView. For reasons unknown to us, some of the information comes from IB technical support, and in a manner that can be construed as accusatory and aggressive. Here are some objective details and the official TradingView position. It’s all pretty simple and can be verified through open sources even without inside information or special technical knowledge.

All messaging between the TradingView platform and APIs of brokers occurs within a web browser. Therefore, we require a WEB API https://www.interactivebrokers.com/we... to make the connection, other types of APIs (such as Java, FIX, etc) will not work. The API also has to be robust enough and provide all necessary features to satisfy the demands of our users.

TradingView has planned and actively began analyzing the IB WEB API in early 2018. The following issues were discovered during analysis.

    1. API does not support futures (only stocks)
    2. API does not support Take Profit and Stop Loss
    3. API does not support Market Depth
    4. API was using an old version of authorization
    5. API was not being developed further

We have discussed these issues at length with developers and other contacts within InteractiveBrokers and were recommended to use the API Client Portal https://interactivebrokers.com/api/do.... The issue with this API is that it does not support WEB authorization, which means it cannot be used by TradingView at this moment.

Based on information communicated to us, support for WEB authorization within this API has had various degrees of priority over the last 6 months, but remains undeveloped. There was no clear timetable on when this might be added. We are checking on the status of this project from time to time. As far as we know, they have not started work on it.

Feel free to share this information with IB, and we will be glad to see the response.

    • Guys, first of all - thank you very much for your help, support and trust, we love you!

It's probably easier for you to read this thread https://getsatisfaction.com/tradingvi... - it's about the same and everything explained openly and clearly.

      But here is the summary:

Let me stress one more time - all we (TradingView) need to complete this integration is functional Web API. We are committed, we wanted this integration from day 1. TradeStation has the API, Oanda has, Forex.com has, TD has. IB has 2 web APIs but with limited functionality as explained above.

Just to make it really simple:

https://www.interactivebrokers.com/we... this API is not supported anymore and really limited in functionality.

https://interactivebrokers.com/api/do... this API does not support WEB authorization function which is a showstopper.

As soon as WEB authorization will be added to the IB's API we'll start this integration. And this is not something only TradingView wants specifically. This is the way any API for third parties implemented. As you can see we already made 10+ integrations and understand this field.

Based on information communicated to us, support for WEB authorization had various degrees of priority over the last 6 months, but remains undeveloped. There was no clear timetable on when this might be added. We are checking on the status of this project from time to time...
    • Thank you so much for your clear explanation!! So frustrating to not have access to TradingView! All the best! Cheers. G

I`ve discussed today with an API specialist from IB and he just informed me that

"there are a couple of issues still pending, a few order types. Unfortunately we do not have an ETA yet for these issues"

    Good afternoon!

I was wondering if there is more info regarding the integration of IB within Trading view. Soon it's 2020 already :)!!
That would be a wonderful feature for lots of traders here.
The reason why I did not switch yet fully to Trading View is that I can't integrate my IB account.
Hope we can get it soon so I can combine my favorite broker and trading platform together!!!!!

Thanks a lot for the great work.

As soon as I can trade my IB account from TV, I'm paying for Pro. Otherwise I'll keep using the free version.

you can now code it for them. you get no money and no credit (well u might get credit) but the ultimate win here is you are bring us what we need in 2020.

Now I am wondering if the Trading View team is acting up this.
We need this integration very badly so I hope TV or IB will finally stop the blame game and finally do something about it.

It would be so gigantically beneficial to both parties. TV would open a new market of potential customers, and IB would finally have an appealing alternative to their atrocious (ugliest of the industry) trading platform.

I was actually thinking to just take IBGateway & the IB C++ code, and wrap it all in a small webservice. Obviously the IB C++ API code is messy, and a mapping from one (IB C++ api) to the other (tradingview api) would be required. This step probably isn't that trivial due some non congruent functionality thou...
And it would require every user to come up with its own IBGateway + local webservice + some clever proxying
    lol

Still nothing? After 2 years. Man that sucks. Tradingview is the best thing that happened to trading. IB integration shouldnt be so hard to fix. I would pay extra to get IB for TV

    Hello guys,

I have been speaking to IB just now the technical team believe Trading-View had not done something, trading view clearly are saying otherwise.

However technician looked up and said this case is still ongoing. There is a new planned release of a IB Client web portal API, but no documented web release date as yet.

  • Most of the brokers that have integrated with TV have very good Web based trading platforms. It appears the problem is on IBs side not putting enough time and effort into their platforms which I find appalling to use. I wonder if they're do this on purpose as they know TV's product for managing risk leaves their products in the dust.
Having said all that, if TV and IB can sort this out I will finally be able to lock in a trading platform and Broker. As an interim solution I am using TradeStation which I believe has probably as many products as IB and is as cheap in their commissions. The only reason I won't stay with TS is I'm from Australia, and IB's trading account is far easier to manage than TS in Australia (deposits, withdrawals etc).

So, to add my 2 cents, keep trying TV, the sooner the better.

  • Indeed, I also feel it is never going to happen. IB are stuck in the 80s with their ugly platforms and their deficient APIs.
