seen/watched flags are missing on shows that are missing air dates

Some of the Swedish shows I watch are missing air dates for most/all episodes.

I know you don't support watched/seen flags for those seasons and on the progress page it looks really weird.

I really don't get it why you need to have air dates...
Would be nice if you could solve this anyway

The reason they don't have an air date is because that information was never put into thetvdb. If you want it you need to update the information there.

Yes, but that's not the problem.

We need to have air dates for the calendar. Otherwise it won't work. Also i think its necessary information for example for tv shows that take their content from real events in the world.

If there would have been any air dates publicly available I would have added them to tvdb ages ago...

I had the same problem with a few unknown animes. But you have to look at the big picture. For those few dozens of tv shows that don't have air dates there are thousands of tv shows that do have air dates.

Besides, this is the internet. There is bound to be someone somewhere in the world who has the original air dates of those episodes in some file and decides to put them on the internet some day.

I still don't see why air dates are required to be able to have a seen/watched banner/flag on a show I've marked every episode as watched.

Seems like a limit in the programming for some sort of reason.

Sure, you are more than welcome to try :)

Don't really remember all of them, I've removed them from the progress page cause they look really weird when there is no air date. Is there any way to see the ones I've removed?

good luck! :)

I already found most of the air dates from Drickbart of season 4. I found them using the .nfo files in torrents. They usually have the air date in them.

Episode 1
RELEASE DATE.: 2007-10-10

Episode 2
RELEASE DATE.: 2007-10-13

Episode 3
RELEASE DATE.: 2007-10-17

Episode 4
RELEASE DATE.: 2007-10-30

Episode 5
RELEASE DATE.: 2007-11-01

Episode 6
RELEASE DATE.: 2007-11-08

Episode 8
RELEASE DATE.: 2007-11-20

Its too much work to find all of them. If you want the rest you have to find them yourself using .nfo files.

Nice work, even though torrents doesn't seem like the most reliable source.

The original problem is still there though

All you have to do is search these results on google and add the word .nfo to it. Than you will find most of the release dates. Once you have them you can add them to thetvdb and trakt will add them during the next update. Than the problem is gone, at least for you.

In some cases it is possible to see .nfo files on download websites, so you don't even have to download them.

Still a lot of air dates missing since not all episodes are released on the scene. (if you consider pirated shows as a valid source)

Problem is still there since not all episodes have air dates.

And most importantly, problem is still there if air dates are missing.

edit:torrents->scene

One of other reasons why I think it needs the airdate is to prevent marking episodes that air in the future as seen.

Take the case where you try to mark all episodes as seen for a season/series, if it didn't check the airdate then you could mark the future episodes as well (which have no air date yet).

Yes, it currently assumes if no air date, then the episode hasn't aired. It's been while since I coded that feature, but at the time I don't remember another way to reliably use the episode without an air date. Not that its always easy, but ideally all aired episodes would have a valid air date for not only the benefit of trakt, but thetvdb in general.

I think this will be more and more a problem of the past. As websites like trakt and thetvdb and other websites and devices that use the information in thetvdb get more popular more and more information will be added.

Trakt is a perfect example of that. How many times has someone asked if the admins could rescrape a movie because they added new information on themoviedb? The same thing is happening with tv shows only those are automatically updated so we don't hear about it as much.

fyi movies have been auto updating for a few weeks now too. it doesn't do nightly like tv, but changes get picked up in a few days for movies.

Yeah, the info itself is updated but artwork is not auto updated unless it doesn't have any yet. So for those, we have to swap out the images ourselves basically.

One solution would be if the show has ended, then air dates doesn't matter.

The shows with missing air dates are almost all ended anyway so that would solve all problems with my old shows.

Ah that is a good point. I will verify with a few shows and if it checks out add that in soon.

If a show has ended, it will now calculate the progress. Shows still airing will require the air dates to be plugged in.
