Does trapster have an API for querying its database?

I'm planning on building an in-car computer, and building in mapping functionality, amongst other things. Having trapster built into the dashboard would be brilliant, but since there's no Windows (or Linux) native client, I can't do this. However, if there was a means of passing in my present GPS co-ordinates, and receiving trap data within some radius, I could implement it myself.
I'm not sure what trapster's business model is, and how allowing outside access to the trap db might affect that, but it would be very cool to get external access (either directly by querying a server somehow, or through a windows dll/sdk/something that can query the db for me instead).
Is there such an API available for developers? Are there plans to introduce one at some stage?

Dhirens-

At the moment, no. We are in the process of redoing a lot of our calls, so at the moment it wont work. You could try this though:

http://trapster.com/maemo/

It takes the GPS location from the N900, so if you could replicate the QT calls it would work.

Thanks Dave. Would you be able to tell me if there are plans to release an API once you've completed your current changes and you've stabilized your calls?

I don't know the status of that. One of those above my pay grade decisions.

Hi Guys

I'd like to be able to submit traps from an iPhone app that I'm developing that monitors your position within a mobile speed camera trap area in Ireland. These zones have been assigned to a private company to monitor for speeding. It would be excellent if the app could report an actual trap was in effect and it could be reported through trapster.

Thanks
Donie

We don't have anything publicly available yet, but it's a possibility.

On a side note Dave, I am planning to add your trap POI's to my iPhone App. Is there any easy to pull all traps for ireland as a JSON or XML document and update automatically so that I don't have to return to your page to manually do it?

Is it ok to use your data like that anyway?
thanks

Got it:

d0n13-

We are working on API access for 3rd party devs. We don't have any details at the moment, but we are more than happy to keep you in the loop if you'd like.

However, scraping Trapster data for your own app is not acceptable. I don't want to sound like a jerk here, but don't do it. It completely violates our Terms of Use. We are working on legitimate ways for people to access our data.

You can review our Terms of Use here:

Ok, I won't.

Please let me know when the API is ready.

Thanks

Resurrecting this question:

Is this API any nearer to reality or light of day?

I'm in a similar situation where I'd like to have Trapster running on a Car PC (Windows 7 based). Does the old Windows application still work any more? I can't even find a download of it.

It's still being worked on, there were some other complications that came up. The future is bright however.

Thanks,

Hi Dave

Thanks for the update. I have an app that is screaming for Trapster integration. I hope your API meets my needs. Any chance of a preview of what will be contained in it?

Thanks
