Click 'settings' and at the bottom of the account tab there is a link 'delete my account' should take care of you.

that would be a helpful response if I could open my account to find the 'settings' tab.

I too have the same problem. I have an acc I cant access because its not there. But it is there, only it now has a request to follow on it. I want this acc CLOSED for good. I still keep receiving followers that I cant answer, and I no longer use this acc. HELP.
