Scam:: Beware FeaturedRentals and Apartment Hunters Inc... they are hunting US!

Your apartment listings appear to have been invaded by a nasty scamming organization called Apartment Hunters Inc. I have been searching for apartments through your site and when I try to contact the property, the link mostly leads to rentjungle.com. When I click on "contact" on their site, it leads to FeaturedRentals.com, a company that requires you to pay $49 before they let you get contact information. This company emailed me, and when I followed their "sign up" link, I found that behind them is an organization called Apartment Hunters Inc, which has all sorts of complaints against them for posting fraudulent listings and ripping people off. The Better Business Bureau gives them a rating of "F". I have had to search apartment complexes by name, and look for their websites, in order to avoid these people. I really hope you address this problem, as I will not continue using and recommending your service otherwise.

I have been experiencing this, not just with one listing, but REPEATEDLY, with MANY listings. RentJungle's link led me to FeaturedRentals.com, which now is giving a three-day free "trial" before charging you $49 for thirty days of their "service". I looked at the address of some of the listings elsewhere and found that they were already off the market.

Then I got an email from Featured Rentals.com, telling me the unit was "empty and available for immediate occupancy", and providing a "sign up" link. When I followed that link to see where it went, I came to a page where they wanted my credit card number and other info. I noticed that the "real" web address at the top of the screen showed "ApartmentHunters.com". Searching them and adding "review" revealed a huge amount of complaints about scamming and fraudulent listing of already-rented properties.

Here is just one of the listings that I followed: https://www.walkscore.com/score/12388...

You DO have a problem, Walk Score, and you need to address it!!

Thank you for this information. I just almost got scammed. I saw an in-law apartment for rent in an area where I live. I happened to catch the address and knew right where it was before I had to sign up and pay $69.00 (with a 3 day free trial of course). I am very desperate for housing and it seemed perfect for me so I got ballsy and went to the home. I didn't think anyone would be there so I had a note all ready to leave on there door. However, a lady answered and was dumbfounded that I asked her to look at the apartment. they had no such apartment for rent. So I went to search for scams and found you.!!!! Thank you for informing us all about these scams. It is hard enough to pay rent let alone be scammed out of most of it. God Bless!!!

This just happened to me too. A house was listed on multiple sites yesterday then today was removed on all but homes.com so I emailed and then got a response from featured rentals telling me it has many applications but sign up for our service to see other houses available. Now there were never any inside pictures of this house. So I put two and two together (removed from HotPads, zillow,&no inside pics) and realized it was a scam. The rental agent for the home was featured rentals. I NEVER give money to anything without researching first!

Thank you so much for your reviews. I agree...STAY AWAY! I called the contact number (twice) because something just seemed off when I chatted with a representative to ask questions. The number was apparently re-routed to the same cemetery service both times. To get a $40 special sign-up through the chat they wanted a password...I asked if I could change it later (since I was giving it to an unknown entity)...the answer was "no...we have everybody's passwords"! Then they wanted a credit card number (even tho I had asked about paying with paypal). When I asked for confirmation that the password and the credit card number would be secure, the agent didn't answer and closed the chat. I tried to get back on but got a note that the chat option was closed. If your heart says yes and your gut says no, go with the gut.

  • I wish I had been smarter! I paid the fee and then was told by the landlord listed on their ad that they no longer manage the property and that the ad I saw was from 5 years ago!! FeaturedRentals say I must fill out a form for a refund. I'm so upset!!

  • I’m ANGY
I was an unlucky one. Really need to find a house for rent and paid the $59 to get listings. Been looking a long time. So tired of getting scammed not only on this but other listings on the internet. Seems people will do anything to make a buck. Sorry I did not check reviews first, will from now on. DO NOT PAY FEES FOR HOUSE OR APARTMENT LOCATERS!

I would gladly pay $59 for a service that saves me time when looking for an apartment. To say you should never pay for a service like this is wrong headed. Remember, if you are not paying for something, you are the product being sold?

It's frustrating because I cannot tell if this is truly a scam, or if there are just a bunch of people who are too cheap to pay a few bucks to save hours of time. If what is said here is true, then it truly is a scam.

Braltzy-- I am the person who originally wrote this post. Initially, I had the same feelings you did... but the more I looked into it, the more I realized this truly IS a scam, being perpetrated on innocent, desperate people looking for rentals.

All you have to do is read the comments here, to answer your own question. Even when people paid the money, they found out the listings weren't real... only then they had to try to get refunds out of these fraudulent organizations that hide their true identities behind multiple false fronts. Go ahead and pay the money, if you want to... no one will stop you.

After looking into it a bit more, I decided to avoid this company because of their bad reputation on multiple websites. It is too bad. A legit service like this would be worth the price.

I was rather hesitant to sign up for the fee they require. But I was really exhausted of spending days for searching in all over Google lol. I was lucky to receive a 40% coupon so I finally decided to give it a try. Found an apartment, signed my lease last week. I could have saved myself $36 and stick to free sites, but basically, you pay for what you get and it kind of worked for me.

Not a single bad word I can say. My family is a victim of recent hurricane Harvey and they offer the services for free of charge.

  • I am in Boston and I can almost tell now when it's going to be a listing from featured rentals be cuz it's too good to be true the rents are always under $1,000 when in the area that they're listing there between 3 and $4,000 a month. I wish I'd government would do something to shut these assholes down but unfortunately I've come across a lot of them recently looking for a one-bedroom apartment. I left out a nice real estate agent called me and an apartment I was looking at for 1200 everything included turned out to be a roommate situation and I think he might be from somewhere down south and I explained how I don't want any roommates and a little bit about my health problems and having a tumor disorder but also telling him how anytime I've ever lived with any female her boyfriend eventually tries to walk in on me sleeping and I just don't feel comfortable having a roommate situation. we almost got more protective than my dad and laughed at that I'm getting a German shepherd and naming him Moses so he will spread the Sea of people at the subway stations like Moses did to the ocean. I got lucky that somebody reached out and wanted business and was very honest about that there might be a broker fee which is about a first month rent I'd rather pay that then get scammed by a company that
listings are complete frauds or been off the market for several years.
