We no longer require our free webs.com site, since we have set up a brand new website hosted elsewhere. Does webs.com provide a web-forwarding mechanism for its free sites? We could always reduce the site to a simple holding page with a link of course, but a 301 redirect would be preferable.
Thanks.

Sorry, we do not permit any kind of redirects or automatic forwarding from sites.

It is still unavailable, sorry.

Does this mean I can't redirect to my webs site from a domain hosted elsewhere?

Not sure if this works with the free account, but I upgraded our account to a starter package for a month and then went into SETTINGS -> SITE SETTINGS. Then put (with your domain name) into every field there (Title, Site Description, Site Tags/Keywords, and Google Analytics). Not as pretty as doing it through .htaccess or by other methods, but it did the trick. Google treats this method as a 301 (permenant) redirect. Within two weeks our new domain was listed #1 with the appropriate search for our non-profit's name and the webs.com address started to drop. Webs obviously does everything in their power to keep customers from being able to redirect their sites. It's a very dirty tactic especially when they are doing it to non-profits that want to keep their google rank after moving past a free or cheap website. They are essentially trying to hold their customers hostage with the threat of losing their Google rank even though they don't come out and flatly state it.
