Banning who you want on your site
Well I was thinking that we should be able to ban people. From our site and we make it how long we want it to be and the reason that way when they sign on they know what time and why they got banned off the site. You would just have to click on their name in the forums and it would say ban and you could click that and this would pop up
-
-
Yes i think it would be a great asset if we could ban people that are violating the rules or are being mean or spamming.
-
-
We should be able to ban members if they have done something wrong to help keep webs.com sites clean and healthy.

Well what i am missing is the option to ban people from your website by ip. This is an option that is offered by many diffrent website hosts and i am sure it would not be to much work to implent this simple future into webs.com.
Because by removing a persons account like you can do now, it would simply let them recreate a new account and go on with what they were doing before. But if there would be a way to banning someone from your website by entering that persons ip address, it would be way better.

YES!! I have ALWAYS wanted something like this!! Unfortunately, Webs.com won't do this idea because people would be using it to misuse the system. I would just create a Google Website or a GoDaddy Website. Much better. :)

You can just delete hi's account.

We, the site owner, should have the ability to ban people from our websites in various ways, such as IP Banning, member banning(permanent and temporary), and individual member privilege banning.
This will help the site owner get rid of pesky people who cause trouble, people who need to learn a lesson, and people they really just don't need on their site off their site or out of a section of their site. It will help the site owner enforce their law on the users of their site. And a lot of times, this is needed. -
-
I agree. I want this to be added. I don't want people to keep breaking rules and then they just get deleted. They can just make another account. Why can't we ban?
-
-
Couldnt agree more. I cant believe such a basic feature, has not been implemented by webs. We need to have an option to ban a user , whether it be it permanently, for a few days months etc etc.
The current member system is a joke, Once a member has been deleted, i dont want them to be stuck in approval again after they try to log in. I want them gone for good and not able to even log in or register in the first place -
-
I totally agree. it's a problem that should be considered Top priority, so people can't harass sites for membership, and waste the site owners' time by doing so. A ban system is a good idea, they should implement it, and soon.
-
-
Well you can delete there account they made on your site kinda the same thing ;).

Nope irts not, he zan make a new account with a other Name.
i want to ban His IP number.
And thas inposible, on this server, so iam lookin g 4 a other server,-
Almost everyone has a dynamic IP number. That means it changes sometimes, so it's possible for someone you ban to come back the next day.

you should try the "password protect" option and set a "Master Password" you can purchase this option in the credit store for 500 web credits and it's active for your site for 12 months.
I've found this to be the simplest solution to a similar problem I had. The only drawback is that people need to have the username and password you set to view the site, but that a small price to pay, and you can send your members the info in an e-mail blast. hope this helps.

Yes pay 4 it, but if i want 2 pay a take a deferent server with pore options.
for 12 Euro i can make a site, control it and have some mailadresses.
But i donth have the euro's so i try this.
en if i cant Ban a IP number, ok i have to be still its Free i know.
and my english is not goed to ik know LOL. -

I think that the ability to ban members should be added, because I don't want to have to deal with the same person on a different account multiple times. Plus, it would be easier than just reporting them, as it would be near instant.
-
-
We need a way to be able to disable or "ban" a user for a customizable amount of time. So when they log in it will say "Your account has been disabled for abuse. You have ____ days until it will work again". Then they cannot go ANYWHERE that is Password Protected.

There is no program to do so, there is a file to do so, named .htaccess but it is not allowed on webs.com, and there is also no way to ban via IP
I have recently spoken to Support Chat, and have been told that they plan on implementing something to ban people, for a certain amount of time.-
they need to implement it soon, and add an option of 'ban permanently' in it as well. as was stated in the 2nd reply to this idea, referring to constant violations and spam, it's something they should have had long ago. I have a good feeling they'll implement it soon

I have a good idea.
People, how many times have you had trolls, spammers, hackers on your site? TO MANY times, right?
Well, hopefully anyone who works at webs.com will read this, but my suggestion is implement a ban feature, so you can ban a user for a set time.
If you implement it, I suggest it be available to the Site Owner obviously, Site Administrator, and Moderators. (Note: Moderator ban feature, should only be for the forums, to ban the user from the forums, until a set date.
An example of a ban message you would get:
You have been banned from this Board/Forum until [Month, Day, Year and Time go here]
Please contact any Site Admin for more information

The site owner should be able to ban their members on their site. When the site owner views a members profile, thier should be a tab that says "Ban member" or something like that, and when you click it, you could choose "1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks" etc.

I think the problem with webs (or anyone) implementing this is a much bigger issue than people realise. The only way to block someone is to identify the IP address they have, but 99% of people can change this ip address simply by resetting there router, without having a fixed way to identify someone other than an ip that can change it makes a permanent ban impossible.
this is the case everywhere on the internet, it is not a simple fix.-
I believe you're missing the point though, any website should have this feature when a person violates its terms of service privacy policy etc. It would show them that they are not going to get away with constant violations of terms. I have seen this on numerous sites. Yes, it is hard to implement, and it's not fool proof in its entirety, but it's something that must be implemented to keep the sites safe.

I have been on sites where they can at least ban the member. I know it doesn't ban the IP address but, at least it's something. I know with my experience in the past, many of the members obeyed the ban if it was a short one. Those who were banned longer termed and created a new account tended to follow the rules more carefully.
And on the subject of the spamming, it would be nice if web members who join other sites couldn't just leave and not leave who they were, if they posted. I was spammed by someone that way and it would have been nice to have been able to find out who it was.-
I've done the same and had the same problems. In fact, I was banned from a site on another server for merely trying to stop a cyber bully from harassing me, and ruining my enjoyment of the site. I know Webs needs a similar ban system to stop spammers and inappropriate member activity on these sites. A great idea.
here is another idea similar to it. Level of ban:
what this would entail is how long a member would be banned for. Let's say a member posted numerous spam entries in a forum. at first offense, he/she would be banned a week from access. Should he/she continue this act of defamation, he/she will be banned permanently. this is how I would set this up. -

@Tammy
A site like that is http://www.knightrideronline.com/ they have that ban feature, but, when you are banned, the ban is issued on your IP Address, so anyone else who uses the same computer as you, to access that site, they won't be able to access the site either-
Actually, one of the issues with IP banning is not only that they change but, if you're using more than one browser on a computer, there will be a different IP address for each browser. That is why you can have two people logged on a site at the same time and the same computer.

I am suggesting, a "Ban" Feature, to ban members, who are misbehaving on your site.
The Ban Feature, should consist of:
1.Ban Emails
2. Ban IPs
3. Ban Usernames
4. Disallow Usernames
The options for length of the ban should be:
1. Permanent (If you want to remove this ban, you MUST do it yourself)
2. 30 minutes
3. 1 hour
4. 6 hours
5. 1 day
6. 7 days
8. 2 weeks
9. 1 month
10. Until --> YYYY-MM-DD

Currently Webs does not have support for you to ban a member for a set amount of time before they return to full membership. If this idea was an actual tool, you could then take care of misbehaving members and give them a "time out" without having to go though all the work of making them a restricted member and then making them a full member again.
If you like this idea please 1-up it.

Hi there. Hope you are well. Could I suggest feature for future developments: maybe to include a block list for the approval of members.
A block list for the site owner will enable them to list and allow to automatically block unwanted members with a particular email address instead of disapproving them all the time. Just a thought...
Service is great. Keep well.

Dear Webs.com Tech Apartment,
I have an Idea to Better My Site. Instead of every member having One Chance, I like to give others A Second Chance. Well, Actually, I would like to have a Strike System where there are 3 Orbs (The Persons' Life-line on my Site before being Perminently Banned). All 3 Orbs first start off Green, when one is taken away, the 2 Remaining Orbs Turn Yellow, and also, the Member(s) are Temporarily Banned for 24 Hours. If they Bother me, My Admins, and/or Mods about Unbanning them Early or Continues to Cause Problems on my Site, the 2nd Orb is Taken away, and the Last remaining Orb is Red. Their Current Ban will be Increased to a Week, Month, or even a Year Ban or 2nd Banning after they are done with their Frist Ban, but Continues cause Problems will be banned for a Week, Month, or Year. If they Continue to Pester me, my Admins, and/or my Mods will Result in their Final Strike (Orb) to be Taken away and they are Perminently Banned. When their 2nd Bann is over, but continue to Cause Problems, their 3rd and Final Strike (Orb) will be taken away, and they will be perminently Banned. These Orbs are Suppose to Appeared Under their Profile Picture. Please Do this Strike System for me, this would help me with my Rules, which I call Tenets.
The Strikes (Orbs) Do not Appear or are Included on my Profile, because I am the Site Owner.

I know people have asked for banning members. I get that if a member is spamming then you delete them but what do you do when they aren’t just there for spamming. Somepeople call the other members bad words or just want to be mean. I think that webs should develop a banning tool for the site manager that lets you controlhow long to ban people for. When the person logs in it would tell them you havebeen banned for a violation of the terms of use. Your ban will be up in Xamount of days/months/year. Something like would be very helpful.

In a way, if admin go to the manage member page in the admin control panel, you can select limited member. If you have stuff them members like to post on, select limited member on their name.
Please notethese 2 things:
1. They can still view your site, but cannot post or contact anyone.
2. You will need to have all applications set to members+ only.
If you have webs chat, you can also ban them there. This isn't a good ban, but it's good enough :) -
-
why not have IP ban and member ban, so if they log into their account they will be banned, and they cant create a new account from that IP and if they do that account will instantly be banned.
also make the person who banned you be able to leave a message on why their banned and a countdown in minutes until their un-banned -

If a person is banned or suspended for a time peroid they are going to forget about it and create a new account anyway. They will get a grudge for suspending their account and leave since not alot of people joins webs.com websites anyway.
