Be able to search inside webs.com
I want to be able to search inside webs.com to search for help, inside my content, through the websites from webs.com and through the web. This way I can get ideas and help quicker than going through help and other menus.

Why not search other's sites? At the bottom of our edit profile pages, It gives an option to EXCLUDE your website from the search engine and makes it private.
I, along with many others, used to use that to find affiliates and lean on one another to make our websites stand out. I have created several fan sites but I love to look for others that have done exceedingly well on their sites.
Heck, some times I offer to make them a banner and Background just for the heck of it.
I want to see what others are up to, not just focus on my own little world.... -
It is a great idea, both searching with our sites and with Webs site, but I don't think we should allow search others' sites...
Unless it's like a category search (Arts, Business, Personal, etc.), but specific sites - no. We make our sites to INDIVIDUALLY create our own communities or businesses with a team of your own or not.
But allowing all Webs site search, just makes it more apparent that we're only a part of a bigger site...and being able to find others' sites so easily might even bring spam to a site (like when they want to "advertise" their site)
So, great ideas, but I'm not really feeling the app that searches Webs site. -
I hear Webs is working on a site-wide search App. No idea when it's coming out though.
-
As mentioned in my idea description:
Search window at the top to search:
1. Inside my website
2. Inside other peoples websites
3. Inside webs.com help and other company pages, etc.
Have these 3 options in a refined search.
So many times I get lost trying to go through help menus and other pages.
It would be great for webs to have a search facility at the top.
Webs.com is a website design company so they should have a search window.

Webs.com does not have a search window anywhere in the site. It makes it difficult to find anything inside webs.com, including other peoples listed sites. If I need help I don't want to have to go through help menu all the time, search bar is quicker.

You mean on your website, or to search for other Webs websites?

Now, there is a search help button but what help did you need because webs.com is so easy to use. A search bar to help in what.....I don't understand since webs.com is so easy and simple to use.

Click on the help button and search what you need there. Webs is simple to use and that help button will solve your problems. No need for this useless idea.

Bring it on, sounds great, need the app, at the monent I'm trying to dable with google customer search api.
They should also put search window just like any major website: ibm.com or microsoft.com that searches their pages: eg: help, documentation, forum, etc. -

Sorry, I had typos before, when I said Webs site, I meant Webs sites, those who have created their own site. :)
Yep, of course! Both are great ideas, and I know that our sites won't be kept private - I'm ok with that, but I just don't like that some site owners might spam over another. But I guess something like that is unavoidable?
Search within our sites will even help improve site's quality and community, because not only are S.O. and/or Admins sending time to add tags/keywords, this'll hopefully make them publish more and better info on whatever their topic is. And that's what we all want, right? :D-
True, true. I have never heard of one webs user spamming another webs user. They both don't want to lose their webs website I guess.
To the outside world this search would not exist but it would be good to have it inside webs to learn from other similar sites and improve your own website. Webs talks about their directory but I have not been able to find it because they don't have search window to find it.
Of course blocked or passworded pages will be out of bound when it comes to webs search.
I think webs is a very young company but in a year or 2 they will propably be taken over by google because they have a good ideas: they listen to customers and provide free version for poor people. -
-
:) Really? I guess it depends on what kind of site you have too...I don't have much spam (just a few ads and unrelated links in my guestbook), but there are some sites that the only activity they have on their sites is ads from this .webs.com to the next. I even knew one site owner, that got sick of it and had deleted his site. ;__; I know I'm rambling and getting off topic, but the issue of spam is very important to me. You wouldn't want an anonymous visitor/user dropping ads when you just want to run your site for real members/visitors.
Yeah, I figured so, and you're right about that. Search is great for learning about other sites, and what works and what doesn't, but some might not always learn, but steal info and such for others... :( Either way, I guess searching Webs sites is okay feature, as long its not abused.
Yep, blocked pages are out. XD So true, I'm too broke for premium services (or standards probably), and Webs is great when it comes to releasing features. I have very few real complaints against them. :D -

I like the idea of looking at others websites. It gives me ideas as to how a design has been utilized with content that I may have no idea that I could do that with mine. It's just searching for some inspiration.
-
-
i agree. we live in google age. websites need to be able to be searched for ideas. also we need apps to be able for our viewers to search our websites and we need to be able to search the vast collection of fixes webs has accumulated.
-
-
-
-
-
If you want to search your site include 2 other site, you will need something like CSE (Custom Google Search), someone did it with 3 + sites. Just check it out anyway.
-
-
I tried Google custom search but it's inadequate - for instance it will find a word that exists on the Home page and the Links page, but doesn't find the same word on the History page - and won't search any of the Wiki pages. So no good. Come on Webs, you have the functionality to search Members, Forums, Photos, Videos and News all separately; we just need a Sidebar All-of-Site search as well.
-
-
I found a way to search inside of your website. Google has a way you can embed a customizable search engine into your website. You can format the results, pick which websites are used for the search, etc. Very very clean.
http://www.google.com/cse/
To see it in action you can visit my page. I have it about half way down the page on the right side. The search results will pop up in the module you put it in. You can clear the results using the X on the right side of the search bar. Try it out. You may like it.
http://pandorexgamebox.com/
(posted my link only to show a way to accomplish the task at hand)
Now what I would really like is to be able to wedge it between my header and the whole page OR put it up at the top and have the results populate in the place of my pages content and when the results are cleared the pages content would come back and the results would go away... that would be slick.-
Thank you so much for the help. :) That is a really good idea you though over, I agree having the search engine right under or above the header would be the best.

-
I have a free site on Webs and I don't own my domain name, so the Webs domain follows my site's name in the url. I tried creating a custom search engine for my site, and it wouldn't work. I don't think it will work unless you have your own domain.

I use atomz (google it) its free and equivalent to Google search engines except you can customize it really well.

this comment is not related to the idea I posted. Google search has nothing to do with my idea.

But 1 problem I think it should be otional to have a search on your site as the site owner might not want a search box. So it should also be made optional.
-
-
I agree having a search box within my own site would be highly useful and definitely something that I would want. However, as a premium pro webs member, I do not want to have my search box engine search anything else but my own content/website.
Maybe for free members they should be set to have a search box that would search all free webs's websites. This way, it will make them want to go premium.-
That might piss off some free users. Some people don't have the money to go premium, and I think we should all get to use the service equally.
-
-
-
-
-
I think it would make a lot more sense if the free members would be able to search in the site only, but the search was sponsored by, say, Google. Then they could do a search in there site, but they could have a Google search option also.
And then to get the plain search, not sponsored by Google, (sense the member is paying for it with his premium account),you have to go premium.-
Soewut, The problem with that is it would cost Webs to much money for Webs to even pay for all free members. With Google Custom Search you must pay for this. If Webs were to use this the prices would most likely have to rise.
Until Webs creates their own search bar you can use other embeddable ones. Such as atomz search.
I do agree a search bar made by Webs would work better. -

this means there will be options to disable search inside your website by others when setting up your account just like in facebook.
Search inside my own website: google custom search is not for the regular joe blow but a IT geek.
Search inside all the help material consolidates going to different locations to find help. -

I would REALLY like to be able to add a search bar to my home page that allows visitors to search for content in my site, similar to search bar on the blogs and photos pages.

I just add the new google search box (the one with the auto complete option), I’m just looking for a way to add it into the head, to prevent to update the code in each web page??? Any suggestion??? This is my website www.tuplazaguadalajara.com

You can submit your site to Google using this page: http://www.google.com/addurl/?continu...
If you want your site to be found in searches on multiple search engines, this site would help: http://www.submitexpress.com/submit.html

awesome idea one big site directory and easier way for members to interact with eachother :D

that is not what this idea was about but yeah, your idea is also good. why don't you setup new idea instead of hide it in here?

help? no you don't. Webs is simple to use and I don't think anyone needs help with a webs account. There is always a way to contact someone at webs.
-
James, your comment has absolutely no relation to the idea I posted. But some of the comments expressed mention that it would be good for webmasters to be able to rate each others websites and have a chance to communicate with each other. Thats a good idea too. To learn off each other is a smart thing. At the moment the only way to do that is to become part of a webs webring.

hi there if any one who is having problem in there channels management visti my link-

personally I'd like to be able to browse other webs.com created sites! Would love for others to find my sites this way and would love to find other sites similar to mine this way too!
-
-
ah..this should of been done in the first place. I never knew this help existed until i did a search on webs.com on a search engine.
-
-
Hy please let's see who wants to be able to make the members of the site moor easy to search with a search box from the place,age,sex...etc? Like this the members are able to communicate moor easy.
Is a good idea?
In this moment is very hard for members to find another in the members search profile to profile. -
-
Definatly needs to be done, webs needs alot to be done, I know about 20 of my friends who left webs premium for other hosters and they got better quality for cheaper price and can do almost anything with their site.
-
-
Great idea - simple advanced searches are on most websites these days and with forums for example they're essential. Perhaps a staged approach would work well for Webs.com, for the moment we'd just love to have the forum app searchable in this way. we've a lot of information buried in our forums, you can read my Advanced Search idea on Webs http://support.webs.com/webs/topics/a...
-
Search window at the top to search:
1. Inside my website (in the form of an App I can add)
2. Inside other peoples websites (a section in webs.com help to learn from other webs.com creators)
3. Inside webs.com help and other company pages, etc. (one simple search window to combine all the disjointed Help areas including the Forums and Documentation)
I hope that clarifies what I had in mind? -
-
-
-
-
I feel like an app for visitors to search your own individual site is more important than a community-wide search, for business reasons. But it would be nice to see both!
-
I agree 100%. To be able to offer visitors a search function within my site would be an app that I would welcome and use.
-
-
Wal/Christopher, as a webs.com user its annoying not to be able to offer my viewers the ability to search within my website. And that is exactly why I suggested this idea in first place. We live in a world of search. Most websites today have a search window. Why not have an apps to do that? Also would be great to find help in webs easier, at the moment help section is all over the place, eg: Forum here and help section there.
-
-
-
-
-
-
yeah me too. It should have been the first app created by webs.com. How can you have a website without search window? Or How can you search through all the webs.com Help documentation without one simple search window in Help section. At the moment help section is disjointed (all over the place)
-
-
-
-
-
This would be great since it is very easy to lose track of pages within my sitebuilder. Clickable links inside the sitebuilder would be really great so I can actually find the page instead of doing the painful task of scrolling for the certain page I'm looking for since it is very easy to pass it when you happen to have a lot of pages like I do.
It would also be great if something would be done about the sidebar not working. I keep mentioning it and so far nothing seems to be getting done. I've been here at Webs for a long time so I'd like to stay but with the way things have been going lately I'm not so sure if I will stick around.-
well, search a similar topic and click, "i have this question too". it will get noticed. at least it will never be noticed like THIS-reporting your problem in an idea topic

I already have that question up and it has been ignored so I thought I'd mention it again.

Hi Barbara, I have created this idea and it simply is idea. Nothing to do with your problem. If you have a problem create problem topic and report to webs.com support. Please avoid mixing comments about the idea I posted about search inside webs.com with your sidebar issue. maya is right. if nobody notices it you might need to put better keywords and description to explain your issue with sidebar. Thanks, Barbara

Why not simly add Google custom search, & set for which ever domains you want?
See http://www.google.co.uk/cse/-
Gee, I don't know... Maybe because it looks like trash lol
-
-
Why should we need to add other app's from google when we are paying for a service from Webs.com
-
-
-
-
-
This idea will help websites that have alot of products on them and make the website look more professional. It would encourage people to purchase a premium web through webs rather than other hosts as currently can be done.
-
-
I have made a seach engine site for webs and i m in the testing stage. I will make a google site when i am done for the search engine.
-
I nevr got it workin
-
-
-
-
-
Surely THIS is more important
BECAUSE 'REQUIRED' QUESTIONS ARE NOT ASKED DURING REGISTRATION PROCESS, I MUST SEND AN EMAIL TO EACH NEW USER ASKING THEM THE REQUIRED QUESTIONS THAT THE WEBS SYSTEM IS NOT ASKING THEM (UPFRONT). I WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWERS BEFORE I APPROVE NEW USERS, NOT AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN APPROVED AS A NEW USER.
THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR ME.
Security of who you let on the site has got be more important
I’m angry no-one is taking secuirty seriously-
you should maybe create an idea for that
-
-
-
-
-
You can do this by installing wibiya toolbar, one of the application in webs.
With the toolbar, you can have a 'search' for the visitor to search within your site...
Have a look at mine!

I would like to be able to add a simple tiny little "Search My Site" webs.com powered widget to my site. I found one in the custom widgets list, but it's powered by google & it doesn't work at all. I added it to my site just fine, but no matter what I tell it to search for, it says "no results found". I assume because I can't get my site to come up on a google search, this search widget fails to work. I would like to see webs.com create a search my site widget.

searching within a website is required.. I need my customers to be able to search my site for key words that are used in product descriptions, to include pricing, ingredients, etc. This is NOT a google search bar on my site.. I want the search to be based on my site only.

I was in the spotlight section the other day and got this ideal i think it wold be cool if there was a way were i could search a keyword like pets and then a list of all the site made by webs that had the word pets as a keyword would come so that we could all find more site that we are interested in like mine i made a site about guitars but then the not many of the people in the webs form play guitar so if i could find other people that have made other site about guitars i think this could help lots of people make better site and get more traffic.
