You can also use the Google Webmaster Tools in Site Settings to add the codes you get from Google.

In order to use Google's webmaster tools, such as Google Analytics you will need to verify your site with Google. Verifying your site allows Google to confirm that you own the web site.
Google provides instructions for verifying your site with them through their Webmaster Central support center. You can read the article here.
From Google's Support Site:
"You can add up to 1,000 sites, including news and mobile sites, to your account. In addition, we'll ask you to verify your site. This is because we need to know you own a site before we'll show you certain information about it or enable you to use our tools. Verification doesn't affect PageRank or affect your site's performance in Google's search results."

Google Verification | Getting Verified
Google provides you with two options for verifying your site with them. You will need to use the option to verify by using an HTML file
Note: since it is not possible to modify your web site's header in the Site Builder mode, you will need to use the HTML file method, not the meta-tag option.
How do I verify my site by uploading an HTML file?
To verify your site by uploading an HTML file:
- Sign into Google Webmaster Tools with your Google Account.
- Click Verify next to the site you want.
- In the Choose verification method list, select Upload an HTML file, and follow the steps on your screen.
- Using any text editor, create the file that Google asks for and make sure to save it with the exact name they ask for (for example, google11e5844324b7354e.html).
Tip: Make sure to select the option to save as all File Types when you are saving the file or you will end up with a file named google11e5844324b7354e.html.txt
Note: The filename is case-sensitive and must have an ".html" extension. The file itself can be empty - we don't read the content of the file, but only check to see that it exists in the specified location. Upload the file to your web server to the location we specify. Generally, this is the root folder for your site.
- Once you have uploaded the file, click Verify button. Google will verify that the file exists in the specified location. If Google can't access the file, they will give you information about the error we encountered. Once this problem is resolved, try to verify your site again.
How do I upload my HTML file to my Webs Account?
- Log into your Webs.com account after you have used steps 1 through 4 above to create the file
- Go to Edit Site and click File Manager
- Select Single File Uploader
- In the Upload a File pop over click Choose File and browse to the HTML file you created in step 4 above
- Click Upload File to upload the file to your account
- Once the file is uploaded, you can perform step 5 in the above steps to have Google verify your account
Other Tips
If you are trying to increase your search engine ranking, we recommend you research "web site optimization techniques" in Google, as the process of getting your site listed at the top of search engines can be time consuming. There is a great deal of competition at the top of the search engines, so the more you know about the subject, the more successful you will be.
Remember, we cannot provide support for Google or other search engines, so if you have questions about their products, we recommend you ask them directly. - Sign into Google Webmaster Tools with your Google Account.

I'm still unable to get my site verified. I've downloaded the google verification into the file manager, but still google states that it cannot be verified. I am feeling like I should have gone with a different website service. If my site isn't on google's search engine, then my site isn't being seen. Please help.

Dennie,
If Google is asking you to download the file, then you should most likely be downloading it there. Unfortunately if you're experiencing any issues or confusion there, you'll need to contact Google for further assistance.
Once the file has been downloaded on Google's end and uploaded via your File Manager, you should be able to verify on Google's end. -
-
OK I'll try that. Computer people, including Google. make instructions on the net so complicated that the average person simply cannot get it. Fot instance, I followed Google's instructions and got what they wanted me to paste on to my web address, but didn't tell me where to upload it.

To verify ownership of your website with Google, follow these instructions:
(1) Go to Google Webmaster Tools and sign up for an account:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/too...
(2) Once you sign in, you'll automatically be directed to your Home page in Google Webmaster tools.
(3) On your Google Webmaster Tools Home page, look for the red button that says: "Add A Site" and click on it. (A dialog box will pop up requesting the URL of your website.) Make sure you only insert the URL (example: http://mywebsite.webs.com WITHOUT adding index.htm)
(4) After doing so, you'll be directed to a "Verify Ownership" page. On that page you'll see two tabs. The first tab will read: "Recommended Method" and the second tab will read: "Alternate Methods". Click on the tab that reads 'Alternate Methods'.
(5) Click on the circle in front of the first sentence that reads: "Add a meta tag to your site's home page."
(Directions to add a specific meta tag will appear.)
(6) Scroll across and copy the meta tag.
(IMPORTANT: Open a new tab in your browser to continue as you'll be coming back to this page in just a minute)
(7) Sign in to your webs.com account.
Select, (1) View Control Panel > (2) Website Settings.
(8) On your Website settings page, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. There, you'll see: Google Webmaster Tools and a box to paste your meta tag into.
(9) Paste your meta tag in the box and click, SAVE.
(10) You must now publish your website.
(11) After publishing your site, go back to your 'Verify Ownership' page where you copied the meta tag.
(13) On that page, look to the bottom and click on, Verify.
You'll receive a, Verification Successful notice. -

I must be missing something here. I have followed all the steps listed above and verification still fails in the google webmaster tools. I copied the meta tag I pasted in the box and clicked save. then re-published all pages. Still fails. Is there anything else I can be missing? Also my mobile site doesn't work either. I was thinking they might be related??? Help please....
-
Never mind, I had to remove the unverified website from the google webmaster tools and start over again. So if you fail the first time, try removing the unverified website and start again (all in google webmaster tools not webs.com)

Glad to hear that you were able to resolve your issue Kathy!
