FAQ. Does privacy protection with domain name matter?
In registering the domain name, is it important to hide personal details for privacy protection? What are the risks if you don't?

One reason for getting privacy protection, is that otherwise, unscrupulous domain companies can try to switch you to their services (and cause problems for your hosting with Webs, as a result) by sending you domain renewal letters.

Hi Michael,
If you don't pay for privacy protection, then ANYONE can easily see your name and address by doing a WhoIs search on your domain name. Whether or not this matters depends on your own personal comfort level. -

Why don't .co.uk domains have privacy protection? Is this feature not available or is it not needed for them?

My question is...I paid for privacy protection, but I didn't get it. Who do I contact to see why?

Please note this company is not registered with ICANN even though webs insists that ICANN is responsible for privacy issues. If you pay their very expensive privacy fee make sure to look up your name on search engines and make sure your address and phone number is not there for everyone to see. I paid the fee three months ago and low and behold there was my address and phone number for the whole world to see. When I wrote to Whos it they fixed it right away but my address and phone number will likely remain on the google first page for several more days! Who knows how long this was actually public. This is a very serious issue. Its a violation of human rights to not be able to protect your privacy especially when a company such as this one misleads one into thinking that if you pay the fee that your privacy will be protected. I have a tech guy today tell me that Webs has nothing to do with protecting your privacy. ICANN wrote me back to let me know that Webs.com is not a registered company and therefore may sell your personal info to other companies. This is particularly worrisome for potential identity fraud. I am sure that this post will be taken down as fast as I post it. Take this as a WARNING you are taking a risk here. I have written several complaints to ICANN BB and other companies that are considered watch dogs on these matters.

My complaint is against Webs who after paying a fee did not protect my privacy. I am now with a different web service which I pay a substantially lower fee and my privacy ( address and phone number not addressed by whosit domain address) is guaranteed and has been for the past 2 years. Please do not confuse my post on where the blame needs to go. Perhaps you have fixed this problem but until then I suggest you take accountability for your false advertising which states if you pay a privacy fee the customer's address info will not be shown by Whos it publicly when someone looks up who owns the domain. You need to fix this. It's misleading and false advertising.
