  • No domain can be transferred within the first 60 days of registration its a universal rule.
If you wanna attach the domain to your Webs.com site visit this topic: ( you have an alternate option - dns hosting).

  • You have a few options here. You can either transfer your domain registration to Webs, or simply attach the domain to the account without transferring it.

The site will be down for a short time, as will email. This is usually 24 - 48 hours.

The fastest way to get your domain online and emails working is probably to take option #2 - to attach the domain without transferring it, and to purchase email services from us.

    First option:

Transferring the domain to our registrar.

When you do this, you will manage your domain registration, including renewals, through your Webs account. This will be simpler than managing it through an outside registrar, but can take a few weeks for the transfer to fully complete. Your site should only be inaccessible for 24 - 48 hours, though.

To transfer your site to our registrar, go to the Premium > Domain Names area of your account.

You can either keep your email hosted through GoDaddy by setting up your MX records with information provided by GoDaddy for that, or you can purchase email services from Webs.

To change the MX records, get that information from your current email provider, then submit a request to the premium Webs support team for assistance with setting those on your domain. You can reach them in the SUPPORT area of your Webs account, once you purchase premium services. This will prevent the email services from working for up to 24 hours.

Otherwise, purchase email services in the Premium > Email Services section of your account.

Attaching the domain without transferring it.

You can attach a domain to your Webs site even if it's registered through another domain provider. To do that, you will need to take a few steps:

    1. Purchase the a premium package. You need to get either the Starter, Enhanced, or Pro package in order to attach a domain name that is registered through another domain registrar.

    2. Once you have purchased the package, then you will need to change the nameservers on the domain by changing it within the domain registrar's site. They need to be set to: ns1.webs.com and ns2.webs.com.

    3. Then you need to wait 48 hours for the nameservers to set.

    4. After the nameservers are set, go to the Premium > Domain Names area of your account and scroll down to find thelink to attach your domain name without transferring it.

It will take up to 24 hours after the domain name is attached for it to work properly on your site.

    5. If you get the Enhanced or Pro package on an ANNUAL basis (paying for a year at once) then you have up to 5 free email boxes you can use. Otherwise, you need to purchase email services separately in the Email Services section of your account.

I don't see that link you're talking about. I think this tutorial was for an old version of Webs...I already purchased the premium plan and changed the name servers correctly and they have been updated but I don't see the link for "attach your domain name without transferring it".

  • Hi,

Ok, after reading many instructional pages and seeing 2 different ways to get a domain name from GODADDY.COM to WEBS.COM, it seems that the easiest way is to do it by choosing option # 2.

    2) Attaching the domain without transferring it.
Once you have purchased a Premium package, then you will need to change the nameservers on the domain by changing it within the domain registrar's site. They need to be set to: ns1.webs.com and ns2.webs.com.

Basically, this is the beef of the instructions, correct? I have a site called www.yourwebsitesample.webs.com and ready to attach the name www.omahatreefeller.com from GODADDY for a customer.

I have no idea how to change the nameserver from GODADDYS to WEBS, but I am guessing that my customer does since he was the one that created the name.

So I hope this attachment goes smoothly. Any other tips offered are greatly appreciated. Just seems so confusing.

    Thanks,
    Joe

  • Eric,

Last question... I see that there are 2 nameservers that GODADDY needs to change. ns1.webs.com and ns2.webs.com

Do I give them both server names?

  • Eric,

I will be doing this tomorrow. By signing up for the Starter package for $3.75 per month or 2 yrs for $89.95, will this package be good enough to make this transfer?

    Thank you

  • Hi WEBS.

Just wondering. A website that I created called www.omahatreefeller.com seems to have expired because of registration renewals by the user. Would I be able to reopen it and rename it to www.omahatreefeller.webs.com so it does not get wiped away until they are ready to re-register it again?

    Thanks,
    Joe

  • Hi Joe!

Your site is still available at it's .webs.com address, which is http://yourwebsitesample.webs.com/. You can use the option under Site Settings if you would like to change the site's username from "yourwebsitesample" to "omahatreefeller".
