FAQ- Deprecation of HTML-Only Option

Deprecation of Downgrade to HTML Option

As we continue to move forward and grow, it's important to make conscious, well-thought-out decisions to grow the business effectively and intelligently.

Due to some recent decisions to focus on our SiteBuilder, we have elected to discontinue the option to downgrade to an HTML-Only account. We've chosen to continue to strongly develop our SiteBuilder and place additional focus onto that front.

Once an account is created using the SiteBuilder, it cannot be downgraded and edited via the File Manager as was previously allowed.

Alternative

Premium users still have the option to upload HTML files via the File Manager on accounts if they choose to do so.

Thanks for your understanding guys. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • Recurring theme here is the [qoute]I am sorry for the inconvience but we won't be offering or planning to offer the html only option anymore. (Or this one) Unfortunately, we do not plan to offer the HTML-only feature going forward or to start offering it again (My favourite)Sorry for the frustrations. This feature was removed because there were not enough people using it to offset the necessary costs of offering and maintaining it.[/quote]really really sucks think I will look for a new site that does offer it!!!!!!!

  • I’m fustrated & annoyed (spent 2.5 hours searching for my best alternative choice)
    Dang.
The only reason I chose webs.com over other popular web sites like wix or weebly is the ability to make my own custom website using hand-coded html/css code. (And not from a templete)

and for a personal game mod site... it's easier to update once I get my stuff up and running .

Also... (Even if it's pro, poses a problem)
What if you have a typo... does it mean you have to re-upload a new one...
When you can quickly load up the editor, patch, save, done...

(The best alternative from now on is github for me)

  • I’m confused and annoyed that Webs now undermines human creativity.
I've been trying to practice coding my own websites and thereby designing them my own way, but now Webs has decided to erase the HTML-only feature and has made it impossible for people to code their own websites without purchasing their own domains. Why won't they allow us to be creative and original? Why do they expect us to use templates?

It would really be a great thing for you guys to bring back the downgrade to HTML feature for users. We were brought to this site because it was a free website builder and we could downgrade and use HTML to code our pages as needed. Not being able to do this is has made things really inconvenient. Please please think about bringing back that feature.

I have to say, this is absolutely terrible.

I currently have a website in which I can already use HTML so thank god, but look at all the above and I am sure there are more.

    Bad news.

Yeah, this is lame. HTML may not be the "latest and greatest" in many website's opinions. But you guys should give the customers/users who've made Webs.com/Freewebs.com who it is today as an online company the option to be able to do either. To completely eliminate it for "business standards" is silly, and childish. Just like how I view people who don't like the same music because they grew up. It's music you liked, if you don't like it anymore, you never truly did. Period.
Not that comparable I guess, but still. To eliminate the option is rediculous. I strictly work with nothing but HTML. &If anything else, DEFF not a pre-created site where I add my own stuff in. Just because people aren't knowledge able with site building? Wow. I mean, incorporate it as you always have, sure. But don't limit us like this. Totally feel screwed here, and I've supported you guys sense I was eleven years old. I'm now twenty-one, and reading this after realizing, then Googling it for confirmation, just dissapoints me. I'll have to find a different hosting site, I suppose. Thanks guys. Hope you re-think this one.

  • This is what really frustrates me. When a company makes an incredibly bad decision that doesn't coincide with what the customers want. There's no reason for it. There's absolutely no harm in keeping the HTML-only feature. You'll only end up losing more and more users because of the limited themes. People need to express their originality. People need to express their creativity. It's not all about ink on paper. It's about building a good relationship with your users. You made a really lousy move, Webs.com. The only reason I'm still here is because I actually have a website which downgraded a long time before the feature was removed. I've tried browsing for other web-hosting services, but very few of them have the HTML only feature. You ended up taking away something that made you unique. So I guess I'm stuck with you for now, unfortunately. This is the only place where I can test my CSS and xHTML skills for free.
