Deprecation

Picnik has deprecated their API (Application Programming Interface). Therefore, we will be removing the Picnik editing icons from our SiteBuilder.

You will not be able to edit photos within our platform at this time.

I apologize for the trouble, but this was a decision made by Picnik that was out of our control. If you have any suggestions as to easy online editors that we might replace Picnik with, please post an Idea topic an let us know!

You can also check out Dom's post above for a link to some other excellent options that you can try in place of Picnik.

    • Please don't remove the picnik editing icons as it is still working ok on my site. I have got used to 'saving to my Computer' when I found that saving 'To webs' did not work
When I edit members photos I just add to their description "photo courtesy of fred blogs etc".
My members are happy with this.

Since you have removed picnik editing icons, I cannot edit the photo details using your pencil icon. If I go to 'Recently added' to edit the latest photographs, I then hover over the photo that I want to edit. I then click on 'edit photo details' using the pencil icon, this would open the whole album before so that I could edit any photo details. Instead now I get a message saying there is a temporary problem preventing this page from loading properly. I then have to start again by searching all the albums to try to find the photo that I want to edit. Once I know which album it is in, I then have to go back to the gallery to view all the albums then click on 'edit this album' using the pencil icon and then finaly I can edit the photo details. It was a lot quicker before!

    • agreed 100%. I am getting the impression that webs wants us to seek an alternative without being honest and tell us that they are not interested anymore. Our premium subscription is about to end and we are still disussing whether to renew or not. Too many hickups, little support, no care and too many alternatives that make us wonder why we are still here!

    • Hey Guys,

Again, I'd like to reiterate that this is not an issue which is why this topic is marked as an answered question.

As previously stated, Picnik has deprecated their API (Application Programming Interface). Therefore, we will be removing the Picnik editing icons from our SiteBuilder.

Our removal of the Picnik editing tools was retroactive as we were made aware of the change. Please refer to the above suggestions if you're seeking another photo editor.

      Thanks again for your understanding.

    • I’m somewhat hopeful
I have a suggestion. I've been using PhotoScape to edit my pics. It's free and has many of the features that Picnik did. Please go to this website and install it on Webs asap. People need a pic editing feature, and shouldn't have to go without one. Thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion, Shannon. We'll forward this so that we can take a look and see if this will work. Much appreciated!
      • That's okay Shannon. I thought you might've figured out a way to install the app to your site... wouldn't that be nice? I downloaded PhotoScape to my computer, so I'll have to play with it and try to figure it out?

I've been editing my images on my cameras program, which has been working but the only problem with that is, it doesn't have the option to resize. So, now I have to not only edit in 1 program but now, resize it on PhotoScape.

I think Webs should offer us more bandwith due to not having an editing tool for our sites? Just a suggestion Webs.

    • I’m Angry
I hope you will soon be adding a new photo editor to your site. We have been paying members for a couple years and are very angry to see something that made the Webs site more user friendly disappear. Your removal of Picnik makes your site harder to use and without a new alternative, we will be looking to move our site to someplace with better customer service.
      • Eric (Official Rep) August 24, 2011 13:34
Unfortunately, Picnik chose to stop providing their service and it was not our choice to remove Picnik. We're looking into other editors, but this process can take some time as we want to be sure that whatever we use will work well with the SiteBuilder and also be easy to use.

Please see the post at the top of this topic for some other online editors that you can use to edit photos before uploading them into Webs.

    • I’m frustrated
      1
I revised my comment that I made yesterday because it wasn't just about Picnik.

I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry? I'm so angry and frustrated with Webs, it's not even funny... so I guess I should cry? Yes, I have a small business and now I'm learning that we cant Edit our Images anymore with Picnik? Maybe I should scream? And, Webs would like us to learn another Editing Tool? Because all of us have all this free time to ''be understanding''? This is affecting my business in a negative way and it's making me look really bad. It's really unprofessional to say to my potential customers ''I'm sorry but my website builder are having problems that I'm trying to work with?'' C'mon.

Here is my question to Webs. Did Picnik give you any type of advance notice that they were going to ''deprecate their API (Application Programming Interface)''? Because Webs didn't give me any type of notice that Picnik was pulling out. I had to finally look it up in the Support Group section after getting upset that I was doing something wrong while trying to edit my images.

I think your customers would've been a little understanding if you would've gave everyone the ''heads up'' and give the suggestion for another editing tool... I know that I would've delt with this issue better.
      • view 3 more comments
      • Caroline the original post in this topic was after the fact. You didn't post anything about new editing tools til after you no longer had any. I believe what Myshells37 and myself would have like was the courtesy of a heads up as paying customers for a service you provide. It would have been nice to at least get a message saying we needed to look for a new program rather than to log in and wonder where the heck the editing tools went.
      • Wallslr,

Our apologies if you felt as though we were not as proactive on this issue as you would have liked for us to have been. We'll be sure to make a note of it for future changes. However this post was created immediately after we were made aware of the deprecation of the Picnik Editor.

We can only communicate with our users as we are made aware of information. We have provided alternatives within the original description of this topic of you're interested in such. Please let us know if any additional clarification is needed.

    • Really annoying. I seem not to be able to edit photos at all within File Manager. Is this correct?

I have tried the list in the above link, but Photoscape doesn't offer any download option.

Very confused, need your precise guidance please, not just a link to a list of programs, I'm not skilled enough.

How can I resize photos within File Manager after they have been uploaded?

We have thousands of images uploaded, most within sets where all are exactly 225 or 275 wide etc. Have we now lost those Picknick measurements?

Can we still use Picknick somehow?

      Thanks

    • I was in the process of watermarking my images with Picnik in a particular style. The only way I can do it now is to upload all my images again after editing them elsewhere. I will then have to go back through and delete the images already uploaded to webs as they would then be useless and a waste of webspace. This is crazy and a completely unnecessary waste of my time. I don't see how this could have been permited to happen?

I understand what you are saying about Picnik's withdrawal, but the situation should not have existed in the first place whereby WEBS are dependent upon a third party to deliver a crucial element of service when customers are paying their subscriptions to you alone for a service to which they have become accustomed to which includes an integral editing facility.
      • I understand your concern for an internal photo editor. However as of the current moment, there is no editor available within our platform. You're welcome to create an idea topic where you can voice your desire for an internal editor. However this particular topic is an FAQ used to simply provide information for our users.

        Thanks!

    • Thank you...this has been my point all along, where is the fix, when will we have the photo editing in content boxes back? This should be a very simple question and yet it keeps getting put off.Or Dom just deletes them..losing Picnik should have never been a problem as Webs should have had their own all along instead of depending on someone else at no charge to them but at a cost to us premium users...fair?

I haven't uploaded new pictures in a while but I attempted to tonight. To my dismay...I was unable to resize them after uploading them, which in turn threw my site margins off because I now have some HUGE pictures on there. I understand the situation at hand with Piknik but at the least, there should be a banner or notification flag that tells your users after logging in that this change or any other changes have or will take place. Webs can still be proactive...that was a complete waste of my time; uploading and editing pages for my new photos, just to find out by going to the forum that I can no longer edit prior to uploading them. I hope you at least take my suggestion into consideration...thank you for your time.
      • Hello!

Thanks for your comment. Our apologies for the inconvenience caused. For now we're simply asking that you continue to do any photo editing using an outside editor.

However, that's a great suggestion and we appreciate your communicating that concern to us. We'll be sure to take that into consideration when new changes occur in the future.

I'll be more than happy to bring that to the attention of our superiors to lessen confusion on the issue. Thanks again! :-)

    • So Piknic has discontinued their association with Webs.com; we get it. But when is Webs going to replace it, already? This situation has been dragging on for way too long - this is terrible customer service. It's like, 'We're so sorry for your inconvenience but it isn't our fault. You can try to find an outside service to use, good luck - you're on your own.' Why doesn't Webs have a replacement photo-edit service in place by now, weeks later?!?! This is ridiculous. And a stupid little face "how does this make you feel?" does NOT help! There is no Total Frustration/Anger face that fits, anyway.

    • I’m confused
I guess I'm still confused about WHY Webs is still waiting to inform all of their customers that '' Picnik has deprecated their API (Application Programming Interface). Therefore, we will be removing the Picnik editing icons from our SiteBuilder?''

Webs is able to send out emails when they have other changes? I just have a hard time believing that they think it's ''okay'' not to address the situation with everyone and wait to address the situation when the customer gets irrate?

And the other problem I'm having, in regards to Webs not having a site editor anymore is, that, they want the customers to come up with the ''fix'' to their mess?

Here is my suggestion for the site editor problem Webs... Send out an email to all of your customers to inform them that you will no longer provide a site editor.

I feel that if you keep waiting for your customers to either get upset and/or wait for us to try and fix your problem, it shows REALLY bad customer service and we will take our business elsewhere.

    • Yes 'myshells37" - I think we ALL are still confused! why weren't we informed instead of having to just discover the problem? And then, why isn't Webs addressing this ASAP to provide an inside photo editor program, instead of directing customers to 'find another photo editor' and 'bring this up in a discussion board'. Why hasn't WEbs replaced the photo editor already instead of letting this drag on & on, expecting their customers to fix a Webs problem?
According to the Webs moderators, we're supposed to be positive and make suggestions on here. OK, I'm suggesting: Get an internal photo editing service!! How? I dont know, I'm not an Webs employee - that's YOUR job. We shouldn't have to suggest it anyway. That should've been Priority #1 when Piknic pulled out.
I am positive that this is very very poor customer service - in fact, it is NO customer service: "sorry, you're on your own". Thanks for nothing.
And please dont delete this comment, it is not negative or whatever - it is merely stating the situation and making a suggestion. If you would provide an internal photo editor as your customers have many times requested, the problem would be resolved.

    • so um.. are we ever going to be able to adjust the size of the images we put on our site again or do we need to find a new host? it is too much hassle to edited at an outside source, post them only to find they arent quite right, have to go back to the outside source again until its right....etc. or else just have a bunch of images on your site that are full size of what they were uploaded. by the way, no images ever fit in the sidebar as they were uploaded lol you have to adjustr them way down which is impossible now

I mean really, you upgrade to these packages with all this extra space and guess what it dont matter cause you cant take advantage of all that extra space. Why cause you cant adjust any of your pictures! How hard can this be to get some sort of editor for photos? This is not making any sense at all. Dont know about the rest of you fellas but nowadays this is the most constant adjustments i make on my website which is adding photos and making adjustment on them with PICNIC(use to be)

Despite the hours of work I've done on my website I'm migrating elsewhere as soon as I can. If I see one more time "Picnik has deprecated their API " i'm gonna lose it!! Who gives a hoot about picnik....get another photo editor...PERIOD!

You basically have a business thats saying to its customers " WE DONT WANT YOUR BUSINESS, WE DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS, WE WILL NOT HELP YOU, AND BY THE WAY STAY WITH US WE WILL SAVE YOU $20.00 TO STAY WITH US FOR ANOTHER YEAR....LMAO...OMG!!!

I already see it, HOMESTEAD, WIX here i come. A damm shame 7 years at freewebs and this is how it ends.
      • Very well put! I've been with webs for over 6 years now and WAS quite happy with them. It is a shame to have to leave but they really are leaving us no alternative, even if they got a new photo editor tomorrow I don't think that I would trust that something like this would not happen again here as customer service is obviously on the bottom of their priority list.
      • From the other sites if tried/used and seen Webs was by far the best imo. In recent times they have taking a step back and are basically just the equal of several of the other so called free sites. I suppose thats why they have these recent promotions to save the extra cash has come in... a whole 20 bucks...wow thanks!! But there is one big difference, the others are FREE or HALF THE PRICE?? Dont know about there customer service guess I/we shall see!!

      Exactly VonD, well put!

Now they have 'removed' my last post saying "This is another issue. Please create a new topic and we'll further assist you there. Thanks."

Well it really wasn't another issue it is all part of the same issue, the terrible customer service here! All we wanted was for you to acknowledge that a mistake has been made and that you will work to correct it ( such as get another photo editor!), how hard could that be??!!

This was my post that they had removed and will likely remove again, so that nobody sees yet another bad opinion of them!

"Now I've noticed that many of the photos that I did manage to resize and fit onto my site before they dropped the photo editor are either missing or the bottom half of them is totally grayed out! They were fine a couple of weeks ago, I haven't done a thing to them and now they are not fine! I can't even fix them because there is NO DAMN PHOTO EDITOR! I am SO disappointed in the service here, I will NOT renew and I will NEVER recommend webs to anyone else!"
      • KW, I apologize for any confusion.

It is our policy that, because we have 50 million sites hosted, and over a thousand topics created here every week, that we must keep every topic specific to ONE issue, and every issue posted on ONE topic. We merge and remove topics and comments as needed, to keep the forums manageable and usable by everyone.

If your images are not showing up properly, that is NOT related to not having Picnik available. That would related to another problem, that we would like to help you resolve. We cannot, however, turn this topic into one that deals with problems related to image display or uploads.

Please post a NEW topic, provide your site username, links to the pages with the images that are not appearing, mention what browser you are using, and which images are not showing up properly for you. In THAT new topic.

We are happy to help you, we just need to do it in a way that keeps things as straightforward as possible.

        Thanks.

    • Just an idea for those who are having trouble resizing- if you resize your photos to a web-friendly size (as for email, e.g. with MS Office Picture Manager) and use Firefox as your browser, you should be able to resize your pics in site builder by just dragging the corners - doesn't work in IE or Chrome but works fine with Firefox. I'm always re-sizing and moving pictures around (a bit harder to do) to fit in with my text, and I find Firefox is best for this.

You can store you pics online with Photobucket and they have a photo editor, then it's easy to link them back to Webs for your site.

    • Can I just ask, has this been resolved now webs.com?

As I seem to be having the same problem and I pay for a premium service every year. I'm being directed to this thread but its over a year old! I'm hoping that you would have sorted out a new photo editor for your site in all that time?

I cannot resize photos to fit around the text and its too trial and error to be doing it outside the browser. Assuming that most people with websites have businesses then they haven't got the time to be messing around with this.

Can you confirm if the problem has now been resolved or what date it will be resolved? Otherwise I too will take my site elsewhere....
