How can I talk to you about Sidebars? I want to use a different sidebar on each of my pages, but if I change it on page one, if changes page 2 and any others. Some pages work better without sidebars simply because of the information on that page, but if I choose not to use a sidebar I get a great big blank down the side of my page - not very nice to look at!
I need to talk to someone about this. Why not make sidebars work like links to 'my paragraphs' work - use it if you want to, don't bother with it if you don't need it. It could be managed very well in the current set-up of 'sidebar manager'. This would keep it separate from the main portion of the page. However you accomplish this they must be independent from page to page.
Please! I need independent sidebars!! Help me out here!!

I agree and posted something similar. If we could generate specific sidebars to each page (ie option 3), we could tailor our website content properly. In my mind it's the thing that really lets the webs.com site down.

Dear Webs Users,
I am pleased to announce the release of our new website builder: SiteBuilder3. You have been requesting more control over your sidebars for a long time and we have done just that with SiteBuilder3. You can now choose to have sidebars on and off on a PER PAGE basis, AND every page can have its own separate and sidebar content. In addition, many of our new themes support sidebars on both the right and left sides of the site (as well as layouts that support no sidebar option). Thank you all for your feedback and we are so pleased to be able to bring these features to you!
You can start using this now but logging into your account, and clicking on the SiteBuilder3 banner on the top of your Pages manager. We hope you enjoy it! -
Hi All, just wanted to give you an update on this. First, I want to thank EVERYONE for their comments and feedback. Its wonderful to see you guys so engaged!
We are still hard at work on our secret new sitebuilder 2011 project, which we expect will blow you all away:) In terms of sidebar treatment, we have figured out an approach that does ALL 3 requests that have been asked for. The project is nearing code completion, which means we will be moving into a QA and testing phase soon. We are not giving out exact dates of our release just yet, but will continue to update you as things progress.

I will reply here to all of today's remarks....Firstly, as things stand now, if you design a sidebar for the first page/front page of your site, then you must have that same content in a sidebar on every other page, unless you turn off the sidebar option. All sidebars must be alike as things stand now - you can not turn off a bit here and a bit there - you turn it all off if the content you have designed goes only with one page, and that's the only page you would leave the option turned on .
Since the beginning of this thread I have been trying to convince "the Guys" to let us do different side bars on each page - they say it's coming - so's Christmas! So, I guess we all just hang in there - they'll let us know when they've pulled their collective finger out!!

Christmas has come and gone...any update on the sidebars?

I've read that you are looking into letting us put different sidebar content on each different page rather than the current choice of putting content on the home page and then other content on the rest of the pages. Are you any further forward with this? The ability to do this would transform my website hugely in that it would enable me to make the images I put on the sidebars totally relevant to the content of the page .... 100% necessary for a good business website. The current inability to do this really lets down the webs.com websites and would make a good website package great.

EXACTLY what I've been trying to tell them for 2 years now...OK, WEBS GUYS...please send us all a reply telling us when this mysterious "soon" date will occur - you promised us last year "soon". Well, I think soon has arrived! Come on, Webs Guys, get the lead out!

Currently comments on the guestbook are shown as EST (-5h). As this is a UK site, I would like them to be GMT (ie 0h). Thanks.

PS I've tried adding a calendar and changing the timezone there, but that doesn't make any difference.

I want to hide the sidebar on the arcade app page of my website because its overlapping the games but I like my template and don't want to change it. What should i do?

Guys i have a code in which you can remove the side from just one page its html.If you guys want it post.
-

This is a must fix, most importantly, if we get the ability to remove the sidebar on certain pages, the main content box needs to widen and use the space that the side bar used.
I know I can find a template to do this but I have spent hours on my site and do not want to do it again. How far away are we Webs? As it stands this really lets webs down.

Fabian, that is exactly how our new system will work. Stay tuned.

This topic has been going on for a year now.
The first official response quote "We are still hard at work on our secret new sitebuilder 2011 project, which we expect will blow you all away:)"
This year is almost over, how it going??? Will we see some progress THIS YEAR? -

OK, it might do me a LITTLE good to customize the sidebar for different pages, but not much. What I want to do is to move the categories from the top of the sidebar to the middle or bottom. This is a valuable section, but other advertising could be much more profitable for my site!
-

PLEASE....give users the option of putting different sidebar content on each different page rather than the current choice of putting content on the home page and then other content on the rest of the pages.
This would be a huge value-add.
Particularly for users who need to put page-related custom widgets in the sidebar, to reflect specific page content

How about being able to control the size of the sidebar...
-
you can control the size of the sidebar.
Depending on how many things you have on it, that will affect the height
and for the width you use the advanced css option in the edit template section for example: #fw-sidebar {width:10% !important;} or #fw-sidebar {width: 50px !important;}

Looks like it's been a year that this topic has been being discussed - - I would love to have a different sidebar on each page - what is going on in the progress of this?

Has webs been lying to us this whole time?? It's already 2012 a whole year has passed!!!! I'm so tired of waiting for basic options in site builder!.. THIS close to switching to Wordpress.

I just assume now that when they say they're working to fix a problem, they're really just sitting around not doing a thing. And when they say they're not able to fix a problem, they really were just sitting around not doing a thing.
-
-
I've been thinking along those lines myself. They say they are coming out with a really exciting package that includes a better side bar manager - but they won't say when. I'm not impressed. I've got to start moving forward with my web page soon - I hope they don't take too long! DO YOU HEAR THIS, GUYS????

So guys! We want a solution!

We are now 2012, Has the new feature been released yet? I joinned webs during 2012 so am unaware if it has changed.

The choices of which page we can apply the side panel to and what content we put in it for the pages we choose to have it displayed would be such a bonus!

Will it mess up the content that's already on my website if I migrate now?

No, the conversion should go smoothly. If you have any questions or issues with SiteBuilder 3, you can click the question mark button next to the Publish button in the SB3 editor to get in touch with SB3 support.

I opened up a free tester site to try out this editor and it seems that I can't use my current template as on my main site as it's not compatible. How would this work as I couldn't find any CSS option on the tester site so I could make the template look the same.
Also I found that I could only adjust certain parts of a premade theme.
Also the content boxes seem very short and squatty. I have a lot of content and text on my pages so how would this look?
I look forward to your response.
Thanks-
Hi Snappy,
As Eric previously stated, if you have questions or issues with SB3, please report them in our new Support Forum here: https://webs.zendesk.com/home
Thank you! -

Hello Webs Guys!
I now have a new question or a few new questions actually! .... I am wondering if there is a way to link to a file in the photo gallery - rather than have it appear on the page once it is uploaded. I want to have a link to a periodic newsletter, but I don't want to use up all my page space posting each newsletter. Is there someway we can have files that we link to and we only see these files when the link is activated? Do I have to use hidden pages for this? Will a hot link show a hidden page? How many hidden pages can I have besides my few regular pages?
A committee I work with has a wiki site and we have our info in files on the site that we read by clicking a hot link created each time we upload a file to the site. Can I do something like that here?
Sher-
Hi, yes you can absolutely link to any file you like. To do so, highlight the text or image you want to make a link, and click the "Link" button. From there, you will see a tab for "File". Then you can select the file you want to link to and you're done!
In terms of hidden pages, you can have an unlimited number of hidden pages as a free user. However, you don't need to link to pages since you can simply link directly to the files. -
