Favicons will also show up in your Bookmarks or Favorites folder when a page is bookmarked, hence the term FAVicon.
How Do I Get a Favicon?
Favicons can only be displayed on Webs websites that have a domain name set up on them. If you don't have a domain name yet, you can register one at Webs by going to the Premium & Domains section. Registering a domain through Webs is also the cheapest way to get Premium services, including the removal of ads from your site.
Once you have your domain name set up, you will need to make your favicon. A Favicon file has a special image file type (.ico) and is usually only 16 by 16 pixels in size. You will need to make sure you save the file as favicon.ico using a favicon editor. There are many online favicon editors available--just do a quick Internet search. Favicon.cc is one such editor.
Once you have made your favicon, you need to save it as "favicon.ico." Any other file name and browsers looking at your site will not be able to recognize it as your favicon.
Finally, upload your favicon file with your File Manager in the Edit My Website section of your account. After you have uploaded it, it may take up to 24 hours for the favicon to show in your browser's address bar.
Note: Some favicon tutorials will tell you to add a line of code to the header of your page. On your Freewebs-hosted domain, you do not need to do this for your favicon to work. Just make sure it's named favicon.ico and that it's uploaded into your File Manager and we will take care of the rest.
Don't See your Favicon?
First, you must use a favicon editor to create your favicon. You cannot just rename a jpg or other image to favicon.ico for it to work.
Second, go to your File Manager and click on the name of the favicon. If the preview loads your image, then you may just need to wait for your browser to recognize the favicon. After clearing your browser history, this can take up to 24 hours.
Please Note: Internet Explorer does not support animated favicons. You can read more here:

Also, your browser may cache favicons of other sites you've visited. Try clearing your cache and cookies and see if it fixes your problem.
Hope that helps!

Yes, You'll need to have a domain name in order to do so. Please be sure to thoroughly read the description above. The requirements and instructions are all stated there. :-)

It looks like non-domain name sites were able to use a favicon previously, though this was an error in our system that has been corrected.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
