Large Forum Based Sites could use Forum Enhancements:
1) Subscribe to Topic
Get emails about new comments
2) Edited "Quote" button/feature
We need to be able to choose how much information we quote because otherwise it can get quite lengthy instead of being forced to quote the whole comment.
3) Section Headers within Forum Categories
Such as we have a News & Debate section in our Forums! I would like it to be where we can create our own headers in a drop down menu so that like in the forum mentioned above people's comments could look like this:
[NEWS] blah blah blah
[DEBATE] blah blah blah
4) View First Unread
We can get some pretty lengthy threads going about certain topics. I'd like to see it where we can not have to read through pages and pages of comments to find where we last left off.
5) Censor Option
Option to be able to make certain curse words automatically "****" out. This could be a feature we have to enable so that not all sites are forced to use it.

Phpbb advanced forums? Yes. I am hoping I read your message correctly because it almost sounds as if you are saying that the forum 'application' that Webs provides is an advanced forum. And THAT it is definitely not.
Ive already moved my forum to greener, cheaper pastures and my members are thankful and happy for it. My entire website is next considering I need a host that really understands what the consumer really needs, and that is something better. I do thank Webs for being my host for the past year and for the remainder of this year, but Ive outgrown Webs. Without database support, a true fully functional forum that doesnt give me error messages every other time I try to send a message through the pm system, and a plethora of other negatives, I need to spend my money more wisely.
Thanks, Webs. Its been a real eye opener. -
9. Prevention duplicate member names, our forum is small, jus over 100 member as we are quite new, but we already have duplicates, which can be very confusing!
10. Mods and Admins should be able to edit member profiles, Ive been asked a number of times if I could help someone new and end up haveing to use their sign in details. Not everyone would be happy to give out passwors, especially if using facebook sign in. -
Great Idea, also we should have different icons for different type of posted topics (Lock, important, replied, no posts, etc.)

You can already sticky topics by clicking on the "tack" button by the threads name.
It's the first button from the left : ) -
-
-
-
-
-
-
Yes, you can sticky actual topics. :)
-
-
-
-
-
No no. IN a topic. Not the actual topic, like if someone has rules for responding to the topic, I'd love to sticky that, like in a normal forum. But, you can't. Usually people use that as a form, if it's a topic like that, and such.
-
-
danidd,
Not many forums on the net will permit the stickying of posts within a topic. In fact, I don't know of any forum software that has that feature. You can only sticky threads within a forum/subforum, as Josiah J and Shannara stated. -
-
Hm. Perhaps I'm saying it wrong, or thinking of the wrong thing. I shall look into it, thanks.
... Yeah. I was totally thinking about the wrong thing. Sorry! Disregard me and my diarrhea fingers. -

I'm also curious if anymore consideration has been given to this? I love my premium membership with Webs, but I really need a better Forum, with more options! I simply cannot compete with other sites similar to my own right now.
I really don't want to have to switch instead of renewing my plan with Webs. :( -
-
the current quote feature is kind of crappy... and seeing as how we can't 'suspend' members, censorship would be GREAT!
-
-
6. admins can give "warned" or "muted" statuses.
7. limit successive posts on a thread.. options for the delay.
8. goodie member's statuses and access can be upgraded -

Is there any status on this? It is the deciding factor in my staying with Webs or moving on. Security is a HUGE deal for my members. We're most interested in:
1. Preventing users to sign on with more than 1 id, more than 1 IP address, etc etc. Right now it's easy to change your username, and although I haven't tried it yet, I'm worried about trolls using someone else's username.
2. We seriously need a way to see "first unread post." Normally the forum is fairly high traffic, but I think the fact that this forum is difficult to navigate is putting people off.
3. Edit quote: the board includes stories, and it's hard to respond to a part of the story if you have to quote the whole thing or nothing
4. Why can't anything be pasted into the reply box? I've tried Firefox, IE, and Chrome and all of them have the same problem. The only way to link something is with the link button, and you can't paste a paragraph from a news story or even a quote into the reply box.
5. I wanted to use Buzzworthy with the forum, but when Buzzworthy is in use it puts a tab called News on the right that completely interferes with the message board, it's super annoying, I've got quite a few complaints, and for some reason I can't uninstall Buzzworthy now.
I want to upgrade to a paid membership but will not be able to do so until I know whether these items will be addressed. -

We need a ranking feature where if someone poss so many topicsa they can get ranked from a rookie to a member to a bronze member ETC....
or we can choose our own like freeforums.org
Best regards on this idea,

The main thing missing for me is the jump features: Not only the prev... next feature with Page numbers, but from top to bottom of the page so we don't have to scroll forever and ever.. amen!
Also, the option to refresh the pages/threads/posts "Last Post First".
The site is great, but when you have over 30 posts in a topic, you have a laborous time getting to the last post-- which could be set automatically.
That would be the first and foremost in my list of updates!
ALSO: Allow creativity in the templates... i.e. Flash banners. When I make a banner, I have a few movies loaded into a host movie. I can save the files to my webspace, but on the header it isn't recognised... nice text where the movie should be.
But... priority would be to get the jumps working... then I am a happy girl! -
-
I am heartily sick of the endless scrolling, some of our topics have over 16 pages of replies, having to go through that first page everytime is soooo frustrating!
member rankings is also very much needed.-
Yeah, agreed.
-
-
-
-
-
Again we should have different icons for different type of posted topics (Lock, important, replied, no posts, etc.)
*nudge* Webs, please add that option, plus custom member rankings!!! Very much needed! -
-
Getting rid of the time limit to edit posts has to go too. My members find this to be the most annoying thing to deal with. I mean, it should only be a line of code that Webs has to deal with. If the mods and site owners have no limit to edit posts, why shouldn't regular members? Makes zero sense to me.
-
-
These are great ideas. Also, Adding stickies topics to the forums would be great. As well as giving the site owner the ability to customize the topic pictures when see in the forums so you can use those to help identify the type of different topics, such as active, inactive, locked, or a hot topic.
Also, the forums need to have the ability to add a poll or a voting system in a topic for the forum. So then it can not be rigged or fixed like the other voting systems such as the sidebar widgets that webs gives us.This way, in the poll, only one vote per member. Making the polls better and more accurate.
These ideas are great. We need these. -
-
One very needed feature (unless I overlooked it and/or it's already mentioned here) that I did not see on this topic is the Mods/admin's having the ability to create new threads WITHOUT going through the whole 'Edit website' process.... There's no sense in directing someone to the control panel, then edit website, then edit the forums, then add a forum thread category.... Just as the Calender has the ability to add events right there, Forums should have the ability to add a forum category for Mods/Admins.
-
That's a good idea. But Site owner should be able to set it up if moderators can do that.

This is something that will not only help me, but hopefully help other sites. My Idea is to have a more organized forum.
In more details is more "links", such as instead of having headings, have forum categories as links such as:
Having categories:
General
Reviews
New members
etc
Lets say I wanted to check out whats in the General chat category ther could be links to:
Anime forum
General discussion
Debates
etc.
Lets say you wanted to check out the anime section:
Then members can make topics and chat about a certain anime.
Thank you for reading, this would just seem a bit more organized, and will help people who have reviewing sites and need to enters thousands of titles and not crash the page.
Thank you if you could at least consider it.

Forum notifications (subscribe, e mail, whatever) is top priority on my list . . .
-
-
The three things I find that we NEED in this forum are:
1. Like above, forum notifications
2. Suspending Members (are don't understand how we could not have that yet)
3. Special Icons like nothing new, or important (Don't understand how we ould not have that either
This should be seriously considered, and I really hope to see this update. -

i would also like to see members allowed to post videos, and if code could be posted without having to click the html button or the insert picture button. i have many members who are familiar with html and image codes and are confused when they try to post and it doesn't work unless they use the buttons.
-
-
Well, this post will probably be deleted, but I must add something here. Ive noticed that there are only 23 employees at Webs to 'help' us when we have a 'problem'. I would personally like to know how many of these employees actually work on coding for the forum application. Other sites I have built outside of Webs I have used YABB and the features with it are astounding and outstanding. If Webs want our money year in and year out, it would be nice if they did actually take time to revamp what we have as our poor excuse of a forum application. Odd as I think I have stated this before.
-
-
Well this one will probably be deleted also! As you say, it is a very poor excuse for a forum application, I gave up in the end and moved to another host who supports PHP, my member are happier, can post videos and pics far more easily and, mosy importantly - IT WORKS!! I have paid for another years hosting with webs in order that members can log back in to copy anything they need from the site without being bombarded with ads, but to be honest mosy haven't bothered as they find it too frustrating!

we need just phpbb support in our websites these are advanced forums!!!

I completely agree. I think the forums need a huge aesthetic update and that Webs needs database support.

I got a phpbb forum now but I am probably going to migrate to a vbulletin forum down the road. Webs STILL hasnt fixed my log in problem that I got a ticket for a month ago and I still get the Hmmmmm error message at least 10 times a day. I will be moving my site shortly. If anyone wants to see what a real forum application looks like, feel free to visit my site and click the Forum link. Its about the only link that works on my site without getting an error message.

The real and easy solution can be support pbpbb forum and/or vbulletin
please consider this, that are the only real bad thing of webs.com
i have my website from about 3 years on a premium account and i really need the forum, i was thinking to migrate to another host, but the sitebuilder 3 is great to improve the website.
I just miss the the support for a better forum !!! (my website start 5 years ago as a forum, and then I create the website on webs.com but with the bad forum :( -
-
any updates as to if any changes are going to be made to the forum feature (comment notifications etc...)???
-
-
-
-
you need to be able to log out of the forums. I want to log out as myself and log in as an admin and I can't
-
-
apparently no one is interested in replying to members of the webs community. If we can't get an update to what's in the works as far as forum enhancements, why should we expect any actual improvements to be made period!
-
-
With Sitebuilder 3 now complete, will forums get a look into? Or will Webs continue to focus on building on the website side of things especially with merging with Vistaprint who also offer websites?
Multiply closed its doors on 1st December so there are many bloggers who are looking for a new home. Is it worth inviting them here or will forums and blogs be going the same way as they did in Multiply where management no longer offer them?
Please can we have a straight answer as to the future of forums and blogs in webs? Will they stay or will they go in favour of websites only? -
-
That can look like this on forums for example:
It would make the forums look much more legit. I added the green reputation for kicks, but a rep system would be cool to have too.
