Provide 1000's more templates to all webs.com users
Not enough templates to suit my taste and needs. Other competitors offer a lot more templates.

We are working on a solution to this, actually. I agree, more templates is always a good thing.
In the meantime, please note that you can modify most of our templates with your own background image and logo, which can really help you to achieve a unique look. Also, in the ADVANCED section of your template editor, you can try adding CSS to further modify your site. -
This is very true. But Webs.com is currently working on some things that will really boost up our sites. So maybe in the future they will work more on templates. You can always create your own or there are many designers out there that make custom Webs templates for you. This site should help a lot.

the whole idea of using webs is to create websites without a lot of html or website design knowledge. Why? majority of customers are in that level of expertise i think. Also I have such a busy life that I really don't have a lot of time mucking around with making my own design. I would have to go to web design school to make great websites. Templates and images help an average joe blow to make super great website and compete with rich people with lot of cash to make a site.

i agree, having us make custom templates!!

I switched to the new builder, and now can't get my old templet back. The new ones don't fit my need, and in my opinion are not very good in design.

Need more than that

@all:
this is just a crazy idea, how about making an easy-to-use template editor and encouraging users to make their own templates (through a contest of course)... this will probably make more than a thousand free templates for webs...- view 2 more comments

I agree but webs needs to create the initial set of templates which preferrably is thousands. You check out other website creation providers. They have way more choices. Yeah competition is fine but for the pro web developers who wish to spend their time for fun. Regular joe blow like me and someone else dont have the skills to code in dreamweaver. :-P
-
-
Also maybe they need to employ more smart people like you with fantastic ideas. They do earn lot of money on services they offer.

i suggest you pop that as a separate problem. This is an idea for more templates.

I am addicted to Photoshop but I hardly know anything about JavaScript or any CSS. I cant code my website BUT I CAN make it look really cool!
I know the dimensions to make a good background and banner this way It looks professional and not like some 10 year old just got done with it.
Point for any future templates Webs:
1.)Make some with Bigger Banner space.
I have been stuck with the same Midnight Multicolor templates for about a year and a half because no other template has the Banner space I like.
I can only stand out so much by myself....
2.) Instead of having basic formal designs, have some that are very Bright, bold, and alot of contrasting colors.
Make some with the same feel that Newgrounds.com has. It's nice that most of your templates are formal and for those that aren't artistically inclined but for those that ARE, too many of those plain templates are...........well...............Just plain Boring!
3.)Have more semi-transparent template backgrounds.
There are only really two templates that you offer that have semi-transparent backgrounds and they arent very stylish. I only know enough CSS only from being joined here on Webs but I cant change the template from being boring looking. When I first started out, yeah I didnt know how to accomidate having a rad looking background with text on it, however I learned. I at first found out that If I had a template with a Semi-Transparent background then that would make my text readable. However, your templates were too plain to do anything with so I had to find another way of achieving this.
I now have found a way of putting a semi-transparent background on my template, but if you had a nice design on the opaque background then I guess I loose out on that design..... -

I'll be officially moving all my templates to Templ.us and adding new ones there. SD will still have forums, codes, tips, and tricks but templus will have templates
-
-
SD you have done good work but still can't replace the built in templates in the Webs wizards. Easy and quick for people without skills. Therefore I still would like to see 100's & 1000's of free templates for al webs users that are more simpler and professional. Also they need to add a nice library of royalty-free images to add to sites.

Guys, I like the fact that you are producing all these additional templates. However, you mention CSS and HTML usage. I dont have any knowledge of those language. I am a professional in another world. My purpose for choosing WEbs a host was to get a program that it can accommodate the click and save user, like myself. Please make templates available that customers like myself can use safely and easily. for example: exciting, picturesque templates with book themes from K-12 and generic.

Yes, but the examples do not carry anything exciting and attractive for a business. Forexample a bookstore could have a more professional look than what I have found with webs so far.

I think what Lucy mentioned is to have the option to adjust the templates. Doesn't mean they shouldn't have just templates for us noobs.

i selected a template for my total-boat.com website. however, when i upgraded to a premium service i can't seem to access a template anymore. is this possible...that i pay money but dont get teh templates? if so, i am in big trouble as i dont know where to start in designing my own template. the whole point for me in using this service was that it gave me a basic template to tweak. maybe i am missing something here?? any suggestions welcome. thanks. niamh

This is the only good idea planned and chosen. This is the least webs.com can do for its members. The other ideas planned are really stupid and worthless.
-
James, I understand you like this idea a lot. However, please do not insult the other users of Webs just because you don't need the features and enhancements that they are requesting. We provide services to 20 million website owners - there will be many different types of needs and viewpoints here.
It's important that we can welcome and show respect for a wide variety of users with different types of goals for their sites.
Thanks! -

I agree, other improvements are as important as this one.

i posted this same query 1 month ago....but have had no helpful response. anyone able to help me out?
"i recently bought a premium pacakge for www.total-boat.com. but i can only edit it using html. i have no time or knowledge to do this. my 3 other websites with premium services www.niamhosheehan.com, www.thesplashes.com and www.boatwatch.es can all be edited using the site manager software. (that i why iassumed the same facilities would be available to me when i set up this new website and paid for premium services). there must be a solution....1. how can i access the site builder software for my new premium webite www.total-boat.com or 2. can i transfer my www.total-boat.com domain name into the www.niamhosheehan.com website as this is not a very important website. please advise how i can do either of these options. this is not the first time i have posted this question - but as yet - it has not been answered and i paid for the premium service several weeks ago but cannot launch the website for my new company. and the domain name www.total-boat.com is on all my printed cards, brochures etc. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!"-
Niamh, as a paying customer, you have access to premium support. If you go to the Premium section of your site, you will see the options for Live Chat and email support.

Could you make the template that is on the http://nettisijoittaja.webs.com/index... page compatible on the template editor? This is the best template I've ever had and it would be nice if there was a variety of such a beautiful templates. Just clear white templates with nice fonts and all the stuff. :)

Good old templates back / new (white based or any new) templates. -

i wanted to know for the credits thing where you get access to the premium templates, does the chosen template stay and your not allowed to change when it expires or does the template return to the free template.
-
Once your credit purchase expires, you can continue to keep your premium template. But if you wish to change it, you can only change it to a free one, unless you repurchase the option.

Guys you can edit the templates that webs offer with CSS and make them look totally different. You can move the content area to the left or right of the sidebar, you can change the size of the template, move the navigation bar up or day, same with the main content area and much more. The CSS isn't all that hard and if you make a mistake or you don't like the look, you just remove the CSS.
If you take a look at http://www.yoursitessuccess.com or http://www.theseafight.com/home.htm they both have had a fair bit of CSS work done to them. And as you can see from those websites, they don't look much like webs templates but they are, they have just been editted by CSS in the edit template section
What ever you do, don't spend your credits on premium templates. -
-
-
People want to easily create a website without all of the CSS and HTML junk. I think this is a great idea, as long as they are good quality templates. It is very true that many other companies offer thousands upon thousands of good quality templates for free (without obnoxious ads), which to me is more appealing then a lousy less-than-fifty templates. If Webs wants to improve and appeal to more customers this is another idea they should complete.
-
Well said.
-
-
-
-
-
You do not need to know CSS or html to modify the webs.com templates. I have modified plenty of them to know that with a few adjustments to color, backgrounds and a custom banner, your website can look awesome and totally different then other using the same template. Trust me. Webs.com is fantastic and so are their templates.
-
-
So on the Darkroom template how can I delete the big space for a picture? How in any template can I delete the sidebar on any given page? How can I put my logo anywhere on the page and not use the title, but still have the title on the page when people visit be there? How can I make the home page be totally different from the rest of the pages? All that without using CSS or HTML? No way.
-
-
as far as i know you can only choose to have the sidebar on the home page, other pages or all pages.
And as for the rest, u need some css, sorry mate. css really isn't that hard.
You can change the height and width of the logo area and move it around the page with margins, webs has made it really easy mate.
a few simple codes that are provided at http://www.yoursitessuccess.com/websc... can easily do most of the things you want.
Don't be afraid of css, it is just chaning the look of things, its not sitting there writting out html.
A simple code like #fw-logo {height:1px; width: 1px;} takes just seconds and can do things you want done. -
-
There should me some new templates NONE of the ones we have does not fit my site

Hello Eric (Official Rep),
The purpose of this "IDEA" was to suggest to webs.com to make more templates. In fact 1000's more templates. Ok, for free customers maybe 100's but certainly for premium customers you should have 1000's of templates. That way you prevent everyone having similar looking websites and encourage creativity.
This topic was not specific to improving current templates. Sorry to disappoint you but that idea can be included if you approve.
Examples of good websites:
http://www.google.com
http://arstechnica.com/
http://www.chrisg.com/
http://www.crunchbase.com/
http://www.seobook.com/
http://www.vanseodesign.com/
http://wakeinteractive.com/
http://expressionengine.com/
http://www.playintraffik.com/
http://wordpress.org/
http://jasonsantamaria.com/
http://www.somme.no/
http://www.lafabrica.com/
http://www.blackestate.co.nz/
and so on, just google "examples of good websites" and webs can learn from the web.
I hope this helps. -
-
I'm sorry about my wording, but yes, that is what I meant to say. Thank you very much for the examples.
-

-
Maybe I'm expecting too much. 500 good templates and create a user community that can submit new templates.

In my opinion, Webs should not only offer far more templates but also sort out some of the issues in respect of those offered.
1. Few of the templates are full-width, so most have a background - not all of which can be deleted or replaced.
2. On some, but not all, templates the sidebar can be hidden but the space is still there.
3. The font and size of the site toolbar cannot be adjusted.
4. The logo on some templates cannot be deleted.
5. Positioning of the customer`s logo is dependent on the template, rather than the customer being able to choose where it should be.
6. CSS or html is NOT the answer. Many customers choose Webs because of the easy of use and the good service - BUT many, like me, have no knowledge of this and Webs don`t offer CSS support.
I agree with most of the points made. We need more templates to help us make our sites different. We also need the facilities for the templates - exisiting and new - to be adaptable without technological knowledge.
Having said that, I have always(for several years, back to the days of "freewebs"), a supporter of Webs and continue to be, and sincerely hope that the points raised can and will addressed in the not too distant future. -

To remove the empty (sidebar) space on Webs.com templates, go to http://htmllist.webs.com and look on the Nav Bar of the Home page for 'Sidebar Codes'. Webs.com sidebar codes are there for easy download along with instructions on how to use them to get rid of the empty (removed sidebar) space. -

There's a new 3D Aquarium template available for Webs.com.
Due to linking from here, if you get a 'black screen' when you visit the 3D Aquarium, simply refresh the page in your browser.
See it here: http://tinyurl.com/3dtemplate -

Discover hard-to-find CSS and HTML codes, examples and instructions to modify your free or custom template on Webs.com.
Find the design modification you're looking for on our 'example' pages. These codes work on both, stock Webs.com templates and custom CSS templates.
For example if you want your logo to link back to your Home page or, you need to use a larger header banner than the area provides for on your stock Webs.com template - we have the codes. Those and many more. CSS Modifications codes added regularly.
And, we have a Forums section should you need assistance.

I signed up for WEBS premium account and I was really disapointed to see such a poor selection in their templates. I own a Trucking Company and there was nothing that would match our services. I hope that their template department would see our posts and change things around... I understand if I had a FREE account, I would not complain, but when we upgrade to their Premium Account - I think we deserve a bit better selection...
When I sent my request thru their CHAT, they directed me here...
Really hopping that our posts do reach the right people @ WEBS

Please we need more templets!!!.
We need more templates. There used to be many more and I was able to find good ones for all my websites. Now there are very few, and they are not the greatest.
I also changed to the now builder and now can't use my old templates. I am now forced to use a horrible template for my main website, even though I modified it is still not what I want my customers seeing. -

i enjoy using webs now. Infact we are allowed to use our own background that enables us to differentiate it from others. I had difficulty in using the new editor but now i am very comfortable with and enjoy it..although i would prefer if there were more themes :). Thanks for your service :) webs is the best.
