SSL Certificates
Why doesn't Webs.com currently offer SSL support i.e. for login to out accounts and managing our accounts, as well as selling private SSL certificates to us, website owners. It would offer assurance to our users that our sites are secure. As well. webs could make some money on this venture. I'd pay for it :) However, you won't even give out my CSR for my site! Com'n Webs, that's pretty standard in the industry you're in!

i really do agree with you and i have said this to the online chat!
when people come to a website and see that there is no security for them they go somewhere else.
i have done all kinds of advertising from google adwords, free ads, facebook and when i look at my website stats 80% of people have clicked on my site and then clicked off within 10 seconds.
i just think with a ssl certificate in view on your home page will reassure people when entering your site.
one thing for you mate go to www.ibcim.org they are a merchant certified company and if you register with them they will give you a link to put a merchant certified symbol on your site and its free for 3 months, when people then click on that they can see that your site is registered.
good luck!!
hope they sort something out for us!

I agree. I am dealing with the same issues. We need SSL certificates. This is huge.
Thanks for the link info Mobile2. -

I cant believe we cannot get more people on board with this. We need everyone to comment on this so we can get webs to support SSL certificates. Do you all realize how many people leave our sites because there is nothing telling them that they are secure.
-
-
We definitely need whatever it is that gives customers that peace of mind. I was wondering why i lost so many customers in a few seconds!
-
-
Absolutely agreed. I would seriously hate to have to switch hosts again over something stupid like this, especially after all the work put in building this site! Please get on this Webs! (and fast)

I'm a web developer trying to set up some additional forms on my client's "Webs" site, he's wanting to collect some sensitive information, but, I guess I should tell him he cannot.
-
-
Definetly agree. Webs has been maturing however alot of work still needs to be done at Webs. It seems like SSL certificates and more payment gateways have been fogotten about. I would like to see Webs offer SSL help and be able to integrate with Authorize.Net, I can't stand that ridiculous PayPal. We need more professionalism as Webs customers.

I have enjoyed the ease of use and many features of webs.com and would like to recommend it to a large audience of folks who need websites for their organizations. Unfortunately, this these groups would need online forms, so SSL is needed for me to do much recommending.

Can we get pages on our site secured better? https. I've gotton feedback from people filling out our web-forms that they would feel more comfortable in the page is secured when entering DOB, name, etc.

Is there a way to encrypt my website log page, my visitors would like to feel safe and not as vulnerable to hackers.

I found a website that has free SSL certificates, but I can't put them on my website. http://cert.startcom.org/

Alot of people don't know the status of their website, so security certificates or helpful. It probably boosts site activity to the users who usually feel that it is not safe.

I have been asked to my site SSL secured. This has come as a result of a request from my customer/member. I understand about password protecting, but why not make it SSL this is what people recognize..

i would also pay for this service, as my clients will be listing name, address, dob. i should have checked on this issue before making my site, but honestly, i didn't even think about it until it was too late.

i haven't seen anyone post about buying a ssl (like godaddy). if you have, how'd that work out? i've also seen some "free" ssl sites. wondering if these would work on webs?
-
Getting an SSL certificate won't do you any good if the server doesn't support SSL (which Webs doesn't).
-
-
any update on this issue?

Sorry if this idea has already been posted :
SSL Certificates - This is pretty simple and should need no explanation. Make our members feel safe. 90% of the time people won't buy from a site with no SSL or other security measures. I cant even get SSL from GoDaddy because CRS (or something like that - I forget what its called). Let's face it, security is very important in today's age of growing cyber threats. This should be on the top of Webs' priority list. Would you buy from a site if you saw no security measures or questioned it?

Yes, I agree with MkTechnicalSupport, Inc. I do not want to complete transactions on my web site, which is what Paypal and Google Checkout are used for. I need to collect and store clients' contact and credit card information for use later. This is why an SSL certificate is necessary for my web site!
-
-
I use emailmeform.com for forms since Webs can't offer this feature. They offer SSL on their paid plans. Hope this helps!

After begging WEBs to do this for so long. I tried what others do. I put the Paypal and Google logos on my site. They have SSL. It works for me.
-
-
I have SSL for Google Checkout but I want it for logging in and out to my site as a member, logging in and out of my site manager, managing/editing my website in webs.com, and managing my profile on my site from the members page on my site.
Thanks -

Well, I would like to know why Webs cannot provide this service or why this site is not compatible with other SSL providers. What can WEbs do about it. Is there a notice sent out by the Support Reps explaining this?

Over a year ago I asked this question, and started a topic on this. 4 or 5 months ago, I guess webs merged us all into one forum which is fine. It still doesn't or hasn't solved our problem. For secure check out, I am happy with the paypal option, and its secure once on the paypal site. The problem is forms. The site I have is for a non for profit organization. We advertise to recruit members. I have a form set up that asks for basic info like name, email, phone number, etc. That is what needs to be secured so people feel secure entering that info. Please look into solving this issue for us. It really is that important because of the identity theft and all the other online bad things that go on.
-
I agree 100%! I have a business I run and don't mind using PayPal for transactions. However, I want people to know their information when they sign into my site and stuff like like is safe. I currently use Emailmeform.com for my forms and bought the premium package which includes SSL on them since Webs doesn't offer SS. Hope this helps!

Here's what I don't understand what would anyone do with address, phone number, name which is nothing.

My site asks for personal information on the forms. ie: name, dob, phone number. This makes having an https vital.
Could someone explain WHY it is so hard to get webs to have this? I am not too familiar with internet/website/techo stuff. What is it that I am not understanding?-
Hello, Jeannie,
Webs currently does not offer this feature at this time because in order to offer SSL encrpytion they would have to allow Server Side Access to there customers, which they cannot do.
Webs is currently looking into this idea, and it may come available to their customers. -
-

So, Caroline, since you are an official rep and following this topic, what is webs considering doing?? I'm sure you realize how important this is. To the point that many webs customers may simply leave and go with a service that does provide that. As time goes on it increasingly becomes important

We'll keep you posted should we decide to add this feature.- view 2 more comments

Hello, Shawna,
Can you please provide the type of application that you are attempting to apply as a webpage app on Facebook?
One solution that you make try is disabling SSL encryption through Facebook, please note, this may not be the correct resolution as I do not have the requested information above. If you follow the below steps, you will disable SSL encryption:
1.Click the Account menu in the top right corner and select Account Settings.
2.Next to the Account Security heading click the Change link.
3.Check the “Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible” checkbox under the Secure Browsing (https) heading.
4.Click the Save button.
If you reply back with the type of application you are installing, we will attempt to help you further.
Thank You,

The app in question is a Donate app. http://www.becauseofyourescue.org/app...
It works great on the website. I would like to add it to the facebook page, but since I do not have a https address to give facebook, when you click on the new custom tab it says "Please Update Your Secure Tab URL
To make sure users can view your app over a secure browser connection (https), please visit the developer console to update your Secure Tab URL."
Facebook has required that all apps have a https address since around the end of last year.
you can see the custom tab at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Becaus... -

Please provide SSL certification! I was surprised that webs.com does not provide this when you give the options of collecting information through the forms application! I need to assure my clients that their information will be secure if they submit a form on my web site!

When I signed up to Webs.com, at my daughter's suggestion and without investigating thoroughly myself, I did not realize till later that they only
allowed Paypal and Google as merchant payment options. I also did not
realize that they did not have a secure website certificate (SSL). Had I known this, I would not have signed on to webs.com. I am in the process of starting a small business, and this is all new to me; I have never had my own website. I don't understand why Webs has not taken care of this issue when people have been complaining and requesting other payment options, such as Merchant, Dwolla, etc. and for secure server certificate for over a year now. These are basic tools offered on web stores. Only a month ago, a Webs employee stated they "will look at top ideas such as this when considering what to work on in the new year. We'll keep you posted should we decide to add this feature". This does not sound like they are intending to make the change any time soon.
Do they have an agreement with Paypal and Google that does not allow them to offer alternatives? -
-
I do not think WEbs is very concerned about SSL because PAYPAL and Google provides that with their payment platform. Those sites turn green, showing security when you try to purchase through them. I have copied the paypal and google logos to my site. What I have found is that as long as I have the product people want at the right price I get the sales. My major concern is driving traffic to my site for my products. I have tried everything and I am still lacking sales. Vistaprints does SEO for me ...pretty good. See my website at www.maroonbooks.com. Do you have any suggestions on driving traffic to our website? Buying traffic is a joke for the most part.

HIPAA is my legal obligation so I will have to look for another website if webs won't offer encryption. I am also looking for encrypted video to add to a website if anyone has any leads on that. Unfortunately I have 2 websites with webs that I'm going to have to let go of......

Hi Webs.
I really like your web services. One of the improvements you could do is to give the users opportunity to add SSL certificates to our websites.
The user ZPBSFG suggested this two years ago. Many people seems to like this idea.
The suggestion has also been flagged for 'Under consideration'. But is has been 'Under consideration' for two years now? Can you please give us an concrete answer?
Best regards, Rasmus.

This feature is not currently being worked on. However, we are aware of the interest and are keeping the possibility open for providing it in the future (thus the "under consideration" status).

Wow! What a can of worms! And it goes back over 7 years!!!
Google Chrome will soon be marking non secure pages with password fields as insecure going forward. That will mean, that a Webs.com member/enduser will not feel safe in going to ANY Webs.com member lists, participate in any member forums, or even stay on our home pages long enough to read them. This is a BIG issue that is coming very soon. Does Webs have any plans to look at this, and move it out of the consideration phase and into the development phase? -

the site is for studying medicine in europe and it needs to be over a secure connection

Most people that leave sensitive information WANT that security.
I am not sure why you are even posting in this thread, since your admission of "I don't even know that certificat existed..." shows that you do not need this service ;) Anyhoo, have a nice day.

I am not selling on my site. My business is as a Direct Examiner. I have insurance agents go to my site to order an insurance exam (medical history, blood draw, urine collection, and ekgs) on their clients.
My agents DO wish to see the SSL, as they are using my order form online. They put in their clients information. I do have the page as a "members" only, and they need a password, but it would make me and the agents more comfortable to see:
That "s" does make a difference, maybe only to me, but in my lil ol world, thats important :)
Thanks for the reply!, as I must admit~I am a newbie in all this.
