As many of you all may already know, many of our users are currently experiencing some issues with accessing their sites due to an ISP Blockage. We are still in the process of debugging/resolving the issue with the known ISPs and we'll continue to report information on the issue which is being discussed here.
Previously, we changed our Company Name from www.freewebs.com to just www.webs.com. As a result of the ISP issue, many users have reverted to accessing their sites via the following example:
www.freewebs.com/yourusername.
Users are able to access their sites via this channel as Freewebs.com has a different IP address which is not currently being blocked by the known ISPs.
Although this can be used a work around, this is ONLY a TEMPORARY solution to the issue. We are not disregarding the fact that users are still unable to access their sites via their normal URLs.
Changing your Primary Web Address within the Site Settings section of your account can be done very easily to work around this issue.
1. Simply log into www.webs.com
2. Click "Edit this Site"
3. Click on the "Control Panel Icon" and then select "Website Settings"
4. Change your Primary Web Address at the top of your Site Settings page to the Freewebs Domain.
Once you've done so, you should be able to access your site via that URL.
Updating
There are a few changes that occur within your site once you've made this change. This particularly pertains to previously embedded photos on your site. Some photos may not appear as the location of your photos has now changed since you've changed your Primary Web Address.
Any photos that were uploaded before the changeover to Webs.com, previously known as Freewebs.com, should still show properly as their original Image Source locations within the File Manager have not changed.
HOWEVER, for any users that created their sites AFTER the switch to Webs.com, most, if not all photos will not be able to be seen. This is a direct result of changing your Primary Web Address.
There are two easy solutions to combating the issue:
Republishing Your Template
Log into www.webs.com
Click "Edit this Site"
Click on "Modify Template" at the top of your Site Manager's page.
Your current template should already be selected.
Select a different template from the listed options and then click "Save".
Then, return to the Template Editor, re-select your desired template, then click "Save" and your template will be reset.
RE-Uploading Photos
If that does not resolve your photo issue, you will need to upload your photos again so that their images sources are changed to match your current "Freewebs" domain. Without doing so, your photos will continue to show up blank or with errors.
Here's how to upload your photos;
1. Log into www.webs.com
2. Click "Edit this Site"
3. Click on the "File Manager Tab" and select the "Single File Uploader"
4. Click "Choose File" and search for the File on your PC, then "Open" the file and upload to the File Manager.
5. Be sure to rename the File appropriately so that you can distinguish the New File from the old one. (This can be done directly within the File Manager once the photo has been uploaded)
6. Embed the new photo on the desired page and it should appear without issue.
Uploading the files this way will give the image files new image sources which will allow them to be correctly accessed and seen on your site.
Once again, we know and understand that this is NOT a permanent solution to the issue. This is simply a means to allowing access to all parts of your sites so that you can continue to properly manage your site as close to normally as possible. Thanks in advance for your continue patience!
