Color me Happy Hair: Finally Found my Wen "Niche"

I'm relatively new to Wen; in fact it's 2 months to the date (started using the product Feb 16). It took me a while to master the system for my fine, medium length (blond) hair and, of course, how to work the styling brush for best results.

Two months ago Cucumber Aloe burnt my scalp and eyes, because I wasn't applying it correctly; however, yesterday I decided to give it another try. OMG! I couldn't believe my eyes or my fingers. Cucumber Aloe has given my fine hair tons of body/volume/shine!! The best part is that this formula holds its own between cleansings, which was my mega concern. The style actually bounces back.

Now I'm officially a Wen Girl with very Happy Hair!!!

Thank you, Chaz Dean....

  • Hey Lori,
I was just wondering which formulas are you using now and how many pumps? I have fine hair as well. I am still trying to find my niche. Thanks.

  • Hey there, Hilary:)

Thank you for asking:) I was born with the "hair from hell". Fine, dry, falls "flat on demand". Color-treated / medium length (just above my shoulders). It took me 4 months, but happy hair is finally mine:)

I use 3 pumps per section of Cucumber Aloe. Was also told that we should switch formulas according to the season and not weekly or monthly.

Plan to re-try Lavender in the Fall - also 3 pumps per section.

Good luck and let me know how it goes:)

  • Thank you. I'm so glad you said you only use 3 pumps per section. I feel like when I use the amount they suggest my hair feels weighed down and dry. I tried using 28 pumps on my chin length hair and it felt worse than it did when I used 16 pumps. One more question-How often do you cleanse?

  • Hey Hilary

Soooo glad I am able to help:) I cleanse 2x a week; Don't laugh, but my hair schedule is Monday and Thursday or, Tuesday and Friday.

Wen needs a day to settle; hence,I look good come Saturday night:).

  • Hilary,

One more thing, Wen gives you a general guideline; you need to modify according to your hair type; hence, much trial 'n' error before achieving perfect results:)

  • I tried using less (about 12 pumps). My hair feels a little less weighed down, but it still feels like straw. It also seems to be breaking. It is getting my hair clean, it just isn't soft and shiny like I want it to be. I have been using sweet almond mint. I am going to try fig and pomegranate. If my hair doesn't feel more moisturizer, I am going back to shampoo. Thank you for the advice. My hair does feel better using less.

  • Hi Hilary

As you rinse Wen after cleansing, massage scalp and run your figures to the ends; then comb thru and repeat massaging until all residue at hairline and mid back (pony-tail section) is gone. It will feel like straw until the comb thru. After each comb thru, your hair should feel silky soft.

From my own personal experience, Sweet Almond gives fine hair shine and strength, but no volume.

I am currently using Cucumber Aloe for the summer because it hydrates the hair. My hair feels great, looks shiny and lots of volume.

Fig is for ethnic, thick and coarse hair - my hair fell flat:(

Back in March, Pomegranate gave my hair shine/body/volume; no more, it, too, leaves my hair flat. Guess it isn't a summer formula.

Then, again, the Pome just may work for you.

Have you tried Lavender? Again, I use only 3 pumps per section because it, too, can lay heavy on fine hair. It lends shine, softness and tons of body/volume but, for me, it pulls at the style.

You need to stick with one formula in order for it to do its job.

Also remember, do not rub your hair dry; this causes breakage/damage. Use the nozzle on the blow-dryer.

I was told by a Wen specialist that we should change formulas according to the season and not on a weekly/monthly basis.

She also encouraged me to re-try Lavender for the Fall.

Lastly, on your next hair salon appointment, ask your hairdresser what he/she recommends.

I feel that a good trim/basic style means a great hair mate for Wen; hence, they work well together:)

    I hope this helps -

Again, good luck and all good news with your hair.

  • You are so right. Less is definitely more for fine hair. Since I have been using less I am getting great results. Thank you so much Lori!!!! I think you just saved me from going back to shampoo.

  • Hey Hilary

Soo glad you are finding your way back to the Wen radar:)

    One more tip:

After I do the complete cleanse procedure and have styled my hair to my satisfaction, I take a drop (the size of a penny) of DermOrganic Leave-in Treatment (argon oil/Moroccan Oil), rub it in my palms and run it thru my hair from the hairline to the ends to set the style.

Between cleansings, I apply same amount (size of a penny) to damp hair, blow-dry to style then, once again, apply a small amount (the size of pea) from hairline to ends to set the style.

Gives hair a great shine, leaves it soft and protects it from damage.

DermOrganic is sold only in certain Hair Salons and on line. It is the ONLY product that works great with Wen:)

Again, congrats with your crowning glory and let me know how DermOrganic works for you:)

    Have a grrrr8 Wen Day:))

  • Hey Hilary

Soooo very glad that you found the way back to the Wen radar.

    One more tip:

    http://www.dermorganic.com/

After I complete the cleansing process and have styled my hair, I take a drop (the size of pea) of DermOrganic Leave-in Treatment (argon oil), rub in the palms of my hands, then apply to the hairline and work my way down thru to the ends. It helps set the style.

Between cleansings, I apply a drop (the size of penny), rub it in the palms of my hand and apply to damp-dry hair from the hairline to the ends, working the hair upward, finishing the ends in mid-air. This preps the hair for volume during styling. Then style as usual. Use one more drop (size of a pea) rub in the palms of my hands and apply to hairline then work my way down thru to the ends, to set the style.

DermOrganic is available and sold only in Hair Salons and/or online (see above link). Ask your hairdresser. It works wonders and is the ONLY "other" product that works well with Wen as a hair-mate.

Again, congrats with your crowning glory and keep my posted on your Wen progress:)

    Have a great Wen Day:)

  • Lori,
Do you use the cleansing conditioner as a leave-in? If so, how much? Also, how much styling cream do you use? I am still experimenting with the leave in and styling cream. Again, thanks for all your help.

  • Hey Hilary

I just did my Wen speech to Donna:)

Yes, I do use the cleansing conditioner as a leave-in. I have medium length, but like my motto says, "less is more" - I use half a pump on the left side (scalp/mid-shaft); half a pump on the right side (same method) and what's left on my hands, I use at the hairline straight thru to the ends.

Styling Creme I use about the size of quarter; this creates the crowning glory:)

When using the leave-in and the Styling Creme, I give a quick, rub into the palms of my hands to ensure smooth, even penetration and coverage to each hair follicle and apply accordingly.

No need to thank me. We are in this together and I'm lovin' every minute:)

Thank you!!! It's great having a fellow Wen pal on line:))
