I’m sad

Abuse of big cats

Dear Sir/Madam

I would like to draw your attention to what, I consider to be, serious mistreatment of lions and tigers here in Bahrain. They were part of a circus that left here in January, but the animals have remained here, in cramped cages and have not had any exercise or been let out for three months. Temperatures are continuing to rise here, today it is 29 degrees. I have contacted the local BSPCA but unlike other countries it does not have the authority to act to relieve the animals suffering. I therefore thought I would contact the WWF and see if it could intervene to save these poor magnificent big cats.
This link to the local paper gives a little extra information, but it is not accurate as the animals have been here since last year and the circus left long before the current unrest begin.

Thank you for contacting us about cruelty to animals.

The focus of WWF's work is on environmental and species conservation and not on campaign issues related to cruelty towards animals. We suggest you contact organizations which are specifically working on these issues. These include:

International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) -
World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) -
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals -
    RSPCA (UK) -
    RSPCA (Australia) -
Animal welfare organizations in Europe -
As your issue concerns a zoo – you may wish to contact a UK based organization called "Born Free Foundation"

You could also contact your local WWF office and they may be able to provide more information about other local organizations who may be able to help. Their contact details (along with website URLs) of all our offices around the world are available at:
