I’m Offended

Errors on Platypus page

I have just read your page on the platypus and there are two aspects which are offensive to Australian.

The first is the photo caption which refers to the "duck-billed platypus". This is a term which is popular in Europe and Britain, but is considered ignorant by Australians. It is redundant. There is no other platypus. If it is a platypus, by definition it has a duck bill.

The second item is hugely inaccurate. It refers to the platypus being found in "Australia and Tasmania". Tasmania is part of Australia. It is not necessary to specify Tasmania separately, but if you feel it makes the entry clearer, you might say "mainland Australia and Tasmania". To exclude Tasmania from a reference to Australia is culturally offensive.
