WWF Office in South Korea

I wonder if WWF has a plan to open an office in South Korea. People's awareness on the conservation and wildlife is increasing in S. Korea and need an organization who can lead it to productive action. Green Peace is there. GCF will be coming. DMZ btw North and South Korea has not opened to human race for half an century - we need to protect the biodiversity. Many people in S. Korea will welcome and support WWF.

    Hi Hongkun,
Thanks for your question, it's a good one.

Currently WWF has primary offices in 50 plus countries around the world. For the time being, it has been decided that our organisation should concentrate on strengthening the existing WWF network and conservation programmes, and not to set up new offices.

There is also set criteria upon which WWF decides whether or not to open an office in a particular country. A lot of resources, time and money is involved in considering the establishment of a WWF office. At the outset, an assessment as to whether a WWF presence is required in a country needs to be carried out, in particular if there are already local organisations undertaking the conservation work.

Our regional hub in Singapore co-ordinates a lot of projects in the region, such as work conserving the Yellow Sea:

So in short, the answer is: not today, but the future is open.

Many thanks for your support, it is much appreciated!
