Following.... I think it a poor thing when you can't update an app for lollipop. I would love to be able to use my sd card.

Android does not allow sending to SD cards since Kit Kat and now Lollipop.
It can be done manually by using "Move or Copy" in gallery settings.
Go to gallery, click settings in top right corner, select move or copy, make your selection, now click on the SD card icon in the Gallery screen and you photos will be transferred.
It only takes a few seconds BUT you have at least one image on the SD card, otherwise the SD card icon will not appear in the Gallery .

That is not true they fixed it in lollipop, all it needs is an update to the app.

Third paragraph, the app has to be updated to allow this.

It works but one can't save files to a SD card. All the app needs is an update that allows it to do this. Your steps above don't work with RAW files as the gallery on the phone does not read them.

I haven't gotten a update for eye-fi in a long time. I still says directory needs to be read/writable when I select the SD card.

That is so bad on eyefi part, why even sell a product if you are not going to support it anymore.

eyefi have not sold the x2 cards for ages there have been 3rd party retailers still selling them but that's beyond eyefi's control

So can you confirm the new eyefi mobi pro app allows to save to the SD card on lollipop?

android external sd storage access was "broke" after 4.4 kitkat after much protest they relaxed access to external storage in lollipop however it still required developers to re work their apps so the issue was fixed for the mobi application but as the x2 card is no longer being sold or supported by eyefi the x2 app has not had this update. as thach tran has pointed out there are work arounds if you have root access to your device.

If you have root access on your phone, the KitKat workaround also works for Lollipop. There are apps in the Play store to apply the KitKat workaround. Search for "SD Fix" in the Play store. I used NextApp SDFix and it worked in 30 seconds. 128GB micro SD for the win :)
Details on the workaround here.
