I live in North Dakota and plan on biking year round. Going to get a Surly Pugsley and was wondering if the xtracycle would fit it's big tires?

No, the Xtracycle is not designed to tolerate the massive tires that define the Surly Pugsley - that's why one customer had his own custom 'Xtra-Pug' designed and built from scratch. See here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7228808@....

The FreeRad and Big Dummy will tolerate the Large Marge rims (some minor frame alteration may be required) and 2.5" tires (which end up being 3"+), which may get you through the snow this winter.

Xtracycle is 90% likely to launch the HD FreeRad in spring 2011 that will tolerate 29'ers, but tire width will be limited to 2.5", no Large Marge rims.

It's officially named the Big Dumb Pugs, and it uses special, wider rear hub and bottom bracket to allow the chain past the rear tire. Also keep in mind that the Pugsley tires have about the same outside diameter as a 29er tire. A normal Big Dummy will take a 26 x 2.4, but not much more before the tire starts to rub on the bottom of the deck and the rear crossbar.

Ahren built another this summer that accommodates a Stokemonkey electric assist.

The other issue with the Pugs is that the rear dropouts are offset 17mm to the drive side to move the cassette over so the chain clears the tire. There's no way to adjust a Free Radical to move it back to center...
