How do I unlink my Google and Youtube accounts?

  • Question
  • Updated 2 years ago
I searched google for finding instructions for unlinking my accounts, but it seems like even the instructions on Youtube are outdated about unlinking accounts. So far, I found no way to unlink the accounts without deleting my Google account:

http://www.google.com/support/youtube...
no option to unlink in account settings

https://www.youtube.com/my_account_unlink
gives me: Your account is permanently linked to a Google Account

Other questions on help.youtube.com that seem to be ignored:
http://help.youtube.com/group/youtube...
http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-...

I cannot delete my account on youtube because it says that I signed in with a Google account and I was redirected to the Google Accounts page. When I click Edit next to My Products, I am only given an option to delete my gmail service.

Whats the problem? Is Google forcing their users to stay with Youtube?

I know this is a long time after you have posted this, but you just have to put the cursor over your name, go to accounts, and on the left side click account management. then go to the bottom of the list and select unlink google and youtube. I hope this helps

@Collin Lauver this doesn't work for everyone. not to be rude, but do you think if it were that easy people would be having this problem. its not the same for every person.

No help ... seems as though you may have to do that before deleting? Maybe a warning is warranted? As someone who uses 5 google products simultaneously, this is a huge pain. Customer service it is.

I know - Gmail is one of the biggest players in providing email globally. But no, don't eat your own dog food Google. Hang your users out to dry for YEARS because you can, and then hide behind your "solution" that only works for a small percentage of users and relegate the rest to posting their frustrations on internet forums. Bravo to one of the largest technology providers. Top notch.

The https://www.youtube.com/my_account_unlink only works if you created your YouTube account a long time ago. These days, if you create a You Tube account, it automatically creates a Google account for you -- this means that you are immediately, permanently linked to a Google account and cannot disconnect them.

The only way is to DELETE the previous linked account to link the new one. Unless you created it a while ago...
I've now wasted hours trying to get around it...
So untill someone from google fixes it...... I'll just complain to my facebook friends!

It is completely ridiculous that you can't unlink accounts. Totally unacceptable that there is no real customer service to this problem.

That link does not work for me. I never even linked my accounts, I was just logged into gmail at the same time as I logged into youtube and it linked the accounts and it will not let me unlink them.

Last year I made a new youtube account to keep videos seperate from my normal youtube account.

this worked fine but it seems at some point this new youtube account got linked to my primary gmail account.

now it will not permit me to USE my primary youtube account because it is not "linked" (and I don't WANT it linked) but anyway.

when I try to UNLINK the new youtube account so I can LINK my primary youtube account to my primary gmail so I can use my youtube account again it says CAN NOT unlink its permanent.

SO how do I DELETE this NEW youtube account WITHOUT deleting my original over 10 years old Gmail account?

I DO NOT AND WILL NOT link my primary youtube to "some other" gmail account I would rather just stop using youtube than go through the EXTREME hassle of logging in and out of youtube and gmail accounts over and over again.

I have the same issue as Nerys.

Funny, it says: "YouTube employees are here to help." at the top of the page for a 2 year old issue.

Google provides a convenient way for users to link up all activities.

How to collect user informations legally, efficiently and stably ?
How to gain market share quickly ?
How to build a fence around sheeps ?
how to do these on presentable way ?

It's time some competitors arise to against this giant, giant like control, quietly.
