Could you try uninstalling and reinstalling please. I think you may have a half installed update to Yuuguu.

Apologies for this, we're now in the process of ensuring that we automatically detect this and fix it without any user intervention.

However, I had this happen to me yesterday too and I had to reboot windows after uninstalling Yuuguu before then reinstalling it.

Hopefully this temporary workaround will get you back up and running, regards, Phill.

I tried to uninstall, reboot and reinstall, as PhillC suggested, and Yuuguu started working, but only one time. After I closed it and tried to run Yuuguu again it gave the same error message. Than i tried to uninstall using "Revo Uninstaller", and the same thing happened again - it worked once, and on the second time it gave me the error message.

Sorry about the problems you are having with Yuuguu.

Can you tell us what version of Yuuguu you have? If you right click on the Yuuguu icon and open the About box it will give you a build number.

Regards, Phill.

Thank you for the fast answer. I can't open the about box because Yuuguu don't get past the error message. The version I'm trying to use is the current version on your web site (true to 31st in october 08).

I'm using an almost fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04

When I try and use the shortcut (Applications > Internet > YuuGuu) nothing happens.

When i try and launch the application manually, the splash screen displays but tells me an error has occurred and I need to reinstall (I have tried reinstalling to no avail):

nick@Nick-Ubuntu:/usr/lib/yuuguu$ java -jar YuuguuLauncher.jar

I got an email this afternoon from Yuuguu and removed my perfectly running Yuuguu installation to try the new one with the skype intergration. Now I get this error 'An error occured while launching'. I have reinstalled Yuuguu 3rice with no joy. How can I solve this? I'm running a 2 week old version of Ubuntu Jaunty

I can happily live without Skype, its only an address book integration from the press release - the Gmail integration more than covers all my needs. I was just suffering from 'PushTheShinyButtontitis'

:) Yeap, I think we all suffer from that at times.

If you manage to get the About dialog up there should instructions on giving us logs files. I think it is right-click on Yuuguu systray icon to find an About menu item.

Yuuguu does not come up in the system tray for Jaunty (I quite like that actually). Can I find it anywhere else.

I think the systray would be the only way to navigate to the about dialog on linux. To turn on logging manually. Find the yuuguu.properties file. It is probably in ~/.yuuguu/config/ and add the line yuuguu.logging.level=ALL to it. Then a yuuguu.log will be produced. Probably in ~/.yuuguu .

I have not found a yuuguu/config but I have found a yuuguu.log and yuuguu.log.1 both of which are empty

I had exactly the same problem as mrbinitie. Following the instructions I found here http://getsatisfaction.com/yuuguu/top... I ran:

rm -rf ~./yuuguu

And Yuuguu started correctly. However, as John Kleiser says above, "skype integration is Mac and Windows only at present." I'm looking forward to that integration promised on Linux "soon!" :)

I have the same problem as described initially (Windows 2000).
I uninstalled Yuuguu, restarted Windows and re-installed Yuuguu - the error message is still there!

The installation ran fine 2 or 3 weeks before, I don't know what might have changed now. When I started Yuuguu todoay I got this damned message, and I don't get it running.

Can someone help please? I need Y urgently to help my parents...

Thanks JJ

Apologies for the problems you are having. Somehow, it looks like your Yuuguu has got itself in a muddle. Obviously this shouldn't happen so if you could enable logging and send the file to support@yuuguu.com that would be appreciated.

Turning logging on in this situation is slightly more complicated but here goes - if you navigate to the Yuuguu install directory (on Win2k it should be ProgramFiles/Yuuguu, but it may be in Documents and Settings//Application Data/Yuuguu). If you open the config directory and open yuuguu.properties (it is just a plain text file) and add the following line to the bottom:

yuuguu.logging.level=ALL

If you then run Yuuguu, the file yuuguu.log should be generated in the install directory. It is just a text file which should hopefully help us get to the bottom of the problem.

Regards, Phill.

Hi Phil,

thanks for your reply.
I followed your instructions, started Yuuguu, got an error message (something with starting point in DLL or so) and this was the content of the log file:

28.05.2009 19:56:37 com.yuuguu.client.update.UpdateManager isInstalledReleaseValid
FEIN: Checking installed release for validity
28.05.2009 19:56:37 com.yuuguu.client.update.UpdateManager isInstalledReleaseValid
FEIN: Installed release is valid

Any idea what's wrong?

One thing I didn't mention before: On my parents' PC (where the problem occurs), Win 2000 is not installed on C: but on partition H:.
I don't know if that matters. I just thought I better tell you since it's rather unusual.

Regards,
Joerg

Windows being installed on a different partition shouldn't be a problem.

The log file looks to be OK and says that you are running with the latest version.

From the error message, it could be that there has been a problem with unregistering the DLL we use to provide native operations. There is a chance that the uninstall/reinstall procedure failed as Windows may have thought that the DLL was still in use, reinstalling Yuuguu therefore doesn't fully update everything. Its not a problem we've seen before so I am working slightly in the dark.

I can't guarantee this will work and appreciate your help on this matter but my next suggestion would be to uninstall Yuuguu, then reboot the PC and then finally reinstall Yuuguu.

Apologies once again as we have spent a lot of time trying to ensure that this sort of thing doesn't happen - our aim is for Yuuguu to "just work".

Regards, Phill.

Well, I have done that a few times already...
What else can I do?

Unfortunately, I didn't write it down or make a screenshot. I will have to wait until the week-end to get access to that computer again.
Thanks for your help,

Sorry, missed where you said you had restarted Windows.

You said the error message was to do with "the starting point" in the DLL, can you let me know the exact error message please?

If you mail me at phill.coleman@yuuguu.com I can also try mailing you the latest DLL file to see if overwriting the current one you have alters anything.

Come on guys, its the old version of JRE you insist on using. GO TO v14 that is the most current. If you INSIST on installing JRE yourself, at least stay on top of what the rest of the world is doing with sun. FOR NOW everyone, your previous installs are NOT deleted, they are stored in "Build.xxxxx" folder(s) within the main Yuuguu folder. Just click on YuuguuClient file in the most recent of those older build folders and everything will be fine - old - but fine. Then just come back here every 6 months or so for an eventual fix. Or newest version, then just use the one just before that. Like for this one! I think it is supposed to be 2.0.0?

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your comments. Why do you think the JRE version is causing the "Error occurred while launching Yuuguu" problem you see? Do you have any error messages or other information? We are very interested in getting to the bottom of this problem.

This error is normally due to a faulty install. We recommend un-installing the Yuuguu desktop client then reinstalling from www.yuuguu.com to fix the problem.

We will be updating the version of the JRE we ship with on Windows shortly, unfortunately in the past the priority of doing this has always been below that of new features. But, as I say, currently I don't see the connection with this problem.

It is worth getting this working for you as running an old desktop application will only work for a short time as when you go idle the desktop application will restart using the latest version. Also the latest version contains more features and bug fixes.

Regards,

John

Proof that the older JRE is at least one culprit, and located below about 2 messages. (the javaw.exe error of no entry point found for the Win2000 case is the proof that using old JRE versions can cause all kinds of issues, not to mention the obvious security issue of using OLD VERSIONS OF JRE) Now, I too would like to see this resolved, but that fact remains - I never said there was a connection between and older JRE and the issue of crashing, I was just adding that as you do NOT need to ship ANY version of JRE with your product (no program should be doing that) instead you need to check the user's computer FOR any JRE installed, IF NONE THEN inform the user they need it installed, offer to take the user to SUN to download the newest, INSTALL IT, then re-run the installer for Yuuguu - onerous? No, not when you coinsdir that anyone wanting to run YuuGuu should be smart enough to know they need JRE for YuuGuu and a great many other programs.

Hi Dan. The "no entry point found" problem for Win2k was due to a mistake in our native windows dll so, in this case, was independent of Java. It would be great if everyone already had Java installed or knew they needed a JRE but we don't find this is true in practice, so we ship the JRE on Windows to cover all users. I totally accept the security reason for upgrading the shipped JRE and we will try and do this more often. Thanks

I have been using Yuuguu successfully under Win 2K for about a year. About 3 weeks ago, I started having the problem in this thread. When the problem first started, Yuuguu would launch and after about a minute would terminate with the message "Error occurred while launching. Please reinstall Yuuguu." Now, I get that message immediately. But I also get another message that hasn't been reported previously in this thread. I get a dialog box titled "javaw.exe - Entry Point Not Found" containing the message "The procedure entry point PrintWindow could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll."

I have tried uninstalling Yuuguu, rebooting Windows, downloading the latest version of Yuuguu and reinstalling it but the problem has remained. I have tried un-commenting the config file line that says "#yuuguu.logging.level=INFO" and also adding the line "yuuguu.logging.level=ALL". Niether change altered the problem and neither change resulted in anything appearing in the log file.

I even tried renaming USER32.dll, hoping that it would be rebuilt when Windows rebooted. That turned out to be a VERY BAD idea and it took lots of time and all my tricks to get my system running again. Now that it is back up, the Yuuguu problem is no different.

I hope with this extra info about the entry point that you can give me a way to fix things. I rely on Yuuguu to work remotely on my customer's machines.

This is an error we've not seen before. Can you send the log file (yuuguu.log in the Yuuguu dir) over to jk@yuuguu.com and we can just check to see if anything stands out as causing a problem.

From the description you've given, I'm wondering if somehow your windows installation has become "damaged"? Has Windows recently upgraded IE to the latest version?

Regards, Phill.

You Did It!

I made sure my old Yuuguu was no longer installed, downloaded your new installer, reboted Win2K, ran the installer and ran the program. It started without any problems. I tested it by sharing my wife's WinXP screen and controlling it. No Problems.

Thank you for solving this so quickly.
