How do I remove a contact from my contact list? There seems to be no way to manage any of the people in your contact list (besides adding them).

You can remove a contact by following these three steps:

[1] Click on the contact's name in the Contact List. This should highlight the contact and provide three buttons (Chat, Show & Edit).

[2] Select 'Edit' and a new window will open to show that contact's details.

[3] Select 'Delete from your contact list'. You will be asked to confirm this action at which point the contact will be removed.

We are always looking for ways to improve the user interface so we will discuss this and determine if there could be an easier way to remove contacts.

That would be easy....if 'Delete from your contact list' was an option. I have attached a screen capture of the 'edit contact' window which shows that this is not an option

Apologies, the method I described only works for Yuuguu contacts. It does not currently work for contacts on other networks. I see the contact you are trying to remove is on Google Talk. I can see that this feature is on our list of things to explore.

My understanding is that you would currently have to use the network's own software (e.g. Google Talk) to delete contacts on that network however I am awaiting confirmation form the developers of the network integration.

OK, I have had this doubled checked...

Currently the only way to delete contacts on other networks is to use that network's own software. So in your case you would have to use Google Talk. If they are deleted from your contact list in that software then they will automatically be deleted from your Yuuguu account.

To date we have focused on getting the core-integration right before adding additional additional features. We do however plan to look at a whole heap of features that should improve contact-management in general.

Yes, Alex is absolutely right. We have the usual featureset to manage our own Yuuguu contacts within the Yuuguu software. For other IM networks (like GTalk/MSN) then we simply show all the contacts you have in that network, and figured you would (or at least could) use your existing applications to manage them.

Apologies if this is not what you were expecting. We thought it such a great feature to add screen sharing and control (and audio conferencing) to these networks that it was best to get it out right away.

Would you like to see contact management for other networks within Yuuguu? (assuming we can do it - I've not checked out the APIs ... )

What do other people think? This feature would be nice to have, not needed, must have?

cheers - Al.

Well, I used yuuguu to add these people to my list. They were not in my google talk account. The only association these have with google talk at all is that the email ends with @gmail.com.

I was able to go to my gmail account, and saw that these contacts were added to my list and removed them there.

My feeling is that if I can add contacts from yuuguu, I should be able to delete those contacts also.

At the least, it would be helpful if you included either a statement or a link that said something like "to remove this contact, remove the from your google talk contact list".

Thanks for the support.

I have been using Yuuguu for about a year. I see this problem a lot in our industry where programmers will make a product fit the needs of management and acccidentally make something that will be beneficial in other areas.

In your case, easy access to screen sharing and conferencing between networks was the order from management but, you have just created a great, cross-platform, Linux, Mac and PC version of an IM program.

There are some features missing such as the ability to delete a contact, use multiple ICQ and AOL accounts and there are glitches where contact names are not pulling from ICQ's servers but otherwise, I really like it and hope to replace Trillian (PC) and Adium (MAC) which I have to use on a daily basis while switching between work and home life. The ability to cancel my GoToMeeting account is approaching, keep up the good work.

many thanks for the thanks - and the feature requests/ideas. It's really useful to find out what people actually want to use this stuff *for*. We're quite a lot less 'management driven' than most companies (I've worked for) here at Yuuguu, but you're quite right. We made a simple tool that we liked using, and have kept on adding things to hopefully broaden the appeal. You see the response go through phases. So, after adding the IM integration to a basic level, we've found people like the potential of it, but now want it fully fleshing out. It's certainly on our internal todo lists, to make our IM piece stand up well against the great applications you named.

For you, what would you say are the killer missing features that GoToMeeting has that Yuuguu currently doesn't?

thanks in advance Al

I can delete my original question now, as this thread answers it quiet well. Although I will welcome the ability to delete contacts from other networks within Yuuguu itself, as I can with Trillian. I will uninstall Trillian when I can group contacts, and when offline/online contacts can also be grouped. Custom away messages would be helpful as well. The ability to mass-message a group of contacts would also be helpful from a technician's perspective if I need to issue a warning about downing a server, or announcing changes, etc.

They are all great features which we agree should be added. Custom away messages - and more generally custom status a la twitter or facebook - seems like a really good feature. The whole area of contact groups is something we have looked at in the past, but never implemented; we found we were unhappy with the UI we had come up with. And then, other priorities happened. But groups is definitely something we plan to return to as well. The remove external contact - again - is something we planned for a second 'detailed' pass at the external contact integration, and this hasn't been scheduled in yet.

many thanks for the great ideas -

Ugh. I can see why that is a bother.

The only way to delete these external contacts is to go into Yahoo (or GTalk or MSN or whatever ) using their native apps and delete the contacts there. You can then re-sync in Yuuguu by going to Settings > External Accounts. Delete that account in Yuuguu, then add it again. This causes Yuuguu to re-scan the external contact list - which you just deleted the offensive contacts from.

Hope that helps -
